Hillsborough Senior Citizens Organizing

COME SHARE YOUR IDEAS FOR PROPOSED

SENIOR CITIZEN SERVICES IN HILLSBOROUGH

HISS ---- that may be the menacing sound that a snake makes or the disheartening sound of a tire going flat, but it's also the acronym for a newly formed committee here in Hillsborough, the Hillsborough Senior Services Committee. Interested citizens have formed this exploratory committee in order to learn what kinds of programs or activities local senior citizens could benefit from. A survey in the form of a questionnaire has already been formulated and dispersed in order to gather information, opinions, and concerns. This questionnaire has been met with great enthusiasm by area residents and now a senior services forum, i.e., brainstorming session, is being planned for Saturday, April 28, at the handicapped accessible Valley Bible Chapel at 14 W. Main St., Hillsborough, NH. The forum is free and open to the public. A free lunch will also be served. This program will begin at 9:30 and we hope to adjourn by 2:30 pm.
If you are part of the 24% of the population of Hillsborough (folks that are age 55+), or have friends and family members in this category, or are simply an interested citizen, we would love to have you there.
24%! That's almost double the population of seniors in the majority of New Hampshire towns. This is all the more reason to boost up services for our seniors who are often at a loss for things like transportation, access to stores, social opportunities, etc.
So, come join the adventure of making senior services happen here in our town. We need your input and ideas to help the committee identify the needs and wants of the local senior population so that we can develop a viable plan. All are welcome to attend this forum but pre-registration is required. To register or to learn more please contact:

First Ever Trivia Night Proves To Be A Smart Idea!

Bosse’s Posse took first prize at the Hillsborough Chamber’s new Trivia Challenge event on Friday night at the Hillsboro-Deering Middle School, beating out the Fuller Public Library team by just one point.  Leigh and Joyce Bosse, and newlyweds Grant and Jane Bosse put their heads together and beat out 14 other teams to capture the $100 cash prize in a competition that was fun and challenging for all who played.  In the student division, Team Awesome took home the prize.

The Chamber wishes to thank all those who participated on a team, volunteered their time and made financial contributions.  The Challenge raised over $1,250 for the Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Program, thanks to local businesses and volunteers.

Event sponsors were Upton & Hatfield, who also contributed soda and cash prizes, Edward Jones, Farmsteads of New England, Stonewall Farm Bed & Breakfast, Bailey Home Improvements, Granite State Communications, USA Recruiters Network, Chris Bober MetLife Auto & Home, Laflamme Optical & Eye Care, and Sewing Sisters.

Hillsboro House of Pizza, J. Marino’s Italian Restaurant and Brick Oven Pizza, Western Avenue Pizza and Sonny’s Pizza, both of Henniker, donated the pizza pies sold at the event.  Chamber Board member Attorney Steve Venezia of Upton & Hatfield chaired the Trivia Night Committee, whose members were Linda Flynn, also with Upton & Hatfield, Heather Alexsonis of HollyHock Flowers, Amanda Venezia, Hillsboro-Deering School District Director of Food Services,  Connie Sampson, SAU #34 Special Student Services Administrative Assistant, and John Bramley, Hillsboro-Deering High School business teacher.

The Chamber of Commerce hopes to make the Chamber Trivia Challenge an annual event so start recruiting your team for next year.  Any feedback about the event is appreciated.  If you have any thoughts or ideas about the event please contact the Chamber office at 603-464-5858 or email at hcofc@conknet.com.
