Diversification of our economy through assistance from the state of Texas and the federal government is what Texas Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa and Representative JM Lozano told the attendees of the Chamber of Commerce Lucien Flournoy Old Fashioned Barbecue.
In November 2009, nine area Foundations initiated a COASTAL BEND DAY OF GIVING, a matching gift program in response to the need for food and shelter in the Coastal Bend. Additional, even more successful Days of Giving have been held every November since then. The seven events, each only 24 hours in duration, have raised over $7.3 million for nonprofits providing basic services to the needy.
Feels like the year is really moving fast before long, my term as board president will come to an end. With that we welcome our five new board members who were voted in during the October meeting. The new board members will be seated during the January meeting.
November is here and now I can say it’s time to get ready for the holidays. Right after Labor Day I started noticing some stores getting ready for Christmas. We had Halloween and Christmas displays practically on the same isles so I started calling this Hallismas. Either way Halloween is over and it’s time to start making the tinsel into “green”, money that is for all business owners.
It is election time not just in Texas but for the Alice Ambassadors as well. The Ambassadors will reconvene on Monday, November 7th for their monthly meeting in which we will elect the 2017 officers. I encourage all the Ambassadors to attend this meeting. Also if you have not voted in the General Election, go out vote as we elect our next President along with local and state officials.

Thanksgiving is almost here. Over the years, this holiday has taken on a variety of meanings, most of them centered on family, caring and sharing. You can carry these same values past Thanksgiving into your daily life – and you can certainly incorporate them into your financial strategies for taking care of your loved ones.
