Texas shoppers get a break from state and local sales taxes on August 11, 12 and 13 - the state’s annual tax holiday. Lay-away plans can be used again this year to take advantage of the sales tax holiday. This year includes items sold online, by telephone or mail.
Half of the year has gone by and it’s time to start thinking about the Board leadership for the Chamber. Bertha Rodriguez is the Board President –Elect and in accordance with the Chamber By-Laws, a nominations committee was established to replace five out-going board members.

Keep in mind that these lists will either keep you in line or will drive you bonkers looking for that certain type of glue. But, the bottom line that we tend to overlook is that these lists provide a hidden message that is called organization.

“Back-to-school” specials now run all summer long and, while kids may not want to think about summer’s end, smart parents can take advantage of all the deals to save money and send their children to school with everything they need.
The famous French phrase: “plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose” (the more things change the more they are the same) is a good starting point for tourism product development. Often what is old becomes new, and what we see as innovative was always right before our eyes. Some basic principles of tourism product development are that “every community has a unique tale to tell, we just have not yet uncovered it”.
More than 70 members attended our July Chamber Luncheon sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank. No one won the cash drawing so we will add $100 to the September Luncheon sponsored by the Alice Rotary Club on Wed. Sept. 20th.
