Old Fashion BBQ Returns

Juan A. Navejar Jr.

The oil field is looking very promising and very positive for Alice is what Texas A&M Dean of Petroleum Engineering Dr. Stephen A. Holditch said during the Old Fashion Barbecue sponsored by the Alice Chamber of Commerce.
“The Eagle Ford Shale is for real. We should see some heavy drilling for five to 10 years and pumps even longer some 30 to 40 years,” Dr. Holditch said.
This was a positive message for those who work, support or prosper from the oil and gas industry in the Alice community.

From the Board President

Servando Garza Jr.

It’s December and my term as Board President comes to a close at the end of the month. It has been a great pleasure to have served as the board president.
Our goals for the Chamber were met. We had more than 30 grand openings in 2011 not including two more scheduled in December. Financially, the Chamber has come a long way. We have operated in the black while not touching 2011 investments.

From the Executive Director

Juan A. Navejar Jr.

Shopping during the holiday season can be fun and yet stressful without adding to it. We often do not think twice about our security when pushing a shopping cart. This past weekend I went to a couple of stores and took notice as to how people protect their belongings while shopping.
It did not take long when I noticed a purse unattended in a cart while the shopper was looking at some items. Other items that were simply placed in the cart were cell phones and wallets.

Is the Time Right for You to Refinance?

Paul Rycroft

“Rates can’t go lower.” Or so advertisements from mortgage companies have been claiming for years. But it’s possible that now, it’s more true than ever. According to research done by Freddie Mac, the average rate on a 30-year mortgage in the U.S. dropped below 4 percent for the first time ever in 2011. Rates on shorter-term, 15-year mortgages are even lower.

Interviewing Applicants

Larry Ellis

Ask the right questions — and boost your chances of hiring the right person

Once you've narrowed your stack of resumes down to 10 or so top candidates, it's time to start setting up interviews. If you dread this portion of the process, you're not alone. Fortunately, there are some ways to put both yourself and the candidates at ease — and make sure you get all the information you need to make a smart decision. Start by preparing a list of basic interview questions in advance. While you won't read off this list like a robot, having it in front of you will ensure you cover all the bases and also make sure you ask all the candidates the same questions.

Seek soaring sales and secured assets?

First learn how to keep predators away

Buzzards are scavengers that will devour what’s left of an ailing business or attack the vulnerable. Whenever you see buzzards circling you instinctually look downward searching for their prized meal. Roadkill is a treat for not only for The Clampett’s and buzzards, but for all that profit on others misfortunes. That’s what you call “the last straw”. You might be done if buzzards are circling, so you needn’t read any further.
