The City of Alice held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony after the completion of the Texas Blvd Project.

The City of Alice held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony marking the completion of the cart paths at the Alice Municipal Golf Course.

A surprised but humbled R. David Guerrero was named the 2012 Citizen of the Year at the Annual Alice Chamber of Commerce Banquet.

Surprised is putting it mildly for Kristen Franki as she was named the 2012 Jr. Citizen of the Year at the Alice Chamber of Commerce Banquet.

The importance of not just Texas A&M but research universities is the message Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp gave at the Alice Chamber of Commerce 76th Annual Banquet during his key-note address at the event.

Alice Echo-News Journal Executive Editor Ofelia Hunter presented the Lowell Hunt Memorial Scholarship to Pilar Resendez. Also pictured is Chamber Board President Ike Ornelas.

As the boomers and their parents age, more and more family members are managing eldercare responsibilities. The emotional, physical and financial demands of caring for aging parents can be extensive. What’s more, the healthcare needs of aging parents can become overwhelmingly expensive — and may include costs that affect their family members in ways that aren’t immediately apparent.

It’s not only smart - it’s a necessity to ensure the most efficient solutions are in place for HR and risk management. Even if everything is going well and you feel no pain, strategic planning is a must, as that’s when you might be the most vulnerable.

Tourism is not only the world's largest industry, but also often its most misunderstood.  Many people outside of the industry believe that tourism professionals are on a permanent vacation.  Others complain about tourism's negative impact.  They see greater traffic on the streets, they note the waits in restaurants and cultural events, and complain that visitors often get lost, are loud, and even rude.  While certainly the tourism industry has to plead guilty to some of these charges, any fair minded person will soon realize that tourism does a lot more good than harm and without it many a place would be a lot poorer not only from a monetary standpoint but also from a cultural standpoint.  Perhaps one area in which tourism needs to improve is in the area of local or internal marketing.
