Lunch and Learn

Chris Doolin, lobbyist from Tallahassee, gave a legislative update to a group of chamber members on Monday, July 18, at the Chamber office.  He shared a power point presentation that included a look back to December 2010, with some of Governor Scott's proposals, Budget Challenges and Proposed Legislation. Mr. Doolin then shared some priorities  for Baker County and some points from the 2011 session. One of those being that 31 of 36 priorities of the Florida Chamber were adopted by the Florida Legislature. The Florida Chamber Foundation has identified six factors critical to planning Florida's future.  Those factors, called "Six Pillars" include:
1. Talent and Education
2. Innovation and Economic Development
3. Infrastructure and Growth Leadership
4. Competitive Business Climate
5. Civic and Govenment Systems
6. Quality of Life

A scorecard has been established to measure the current status of each of these pillars. The scorecard is intended to provide regional views of performance so that local stakeholders can measure and evaluate their position respective to each other, the state and communities across the globe. Banquet Time

The Chamber Annual Banquet this year is scheduled for Tuesday, September 27 @ FBC Macclenny.  Hatcher Catering will again be providing our dinner.  If you are interested in sponsoring our banquet this year, please contact the Chamber office at 259-6433 or email bablackshear@bakerchamberfl.com.

Also, be thinking about whom you would like to nominate for the large & small business awards, and the Community Service Award. Business awards need to be members of the Chamber. Community Service Award nominee do not have to be members.

Congratulations to the Baker Bullets for clinching second place in the First Coast Y championships. Way to swim!
