Spotlight Business

The Chamber's Spotlight Business of the Month is Mike and Angie Hug's Down By the River Bed and Breakfast. A local gem in our area, that is featured on Trip Advisor, Mike has been involved with the Benson Chamber for quite awhile now, and we appreciate when our members are involved with their Chamber! Mike has had Down By the River since 2005, with Angie joining him in 2009. They have a centrally located, beautiful place located at 2255 Efken Place in St. David. Congradulations to our most recent Spotlight Business of the Month!

How to Get the Most Out of Your Membership

There seems to be a little bit of a misconception as to what exactly The Chamber does for members. joining the Chamber will not automatically have people beating down your door because of referrals. The Chamber gives referrals when someone inquires to the services the various members provide, yes, but that is a small part of how the Chamber works. When people from in town, or out of town look on our website they are looking to see what services are offered in this town. Some are looking to visit, and some are looking to move here. When they see that we have a hospital, medical helicopter, and ambulance service, respit and long term care facilities available, that is what retiring people are interested in. Families are looking at the differant schools, and children's activities, such as dance studios, music lessons, sports, and the like. Everybody needs auto mechanics, restaurants, hair salons, handy men, and other goods and services. People like to take their business to people they have a connection with. So, yes, we have people who look at our website to see what businesses are available in Benson. That gets your business known. Another way is networking. That is VERY important! The Chamber breakfasts that we have once a month, and the mixers are very important for meeting other business owners. You and others are more likely to use services of someone you have met, and have had a chance to get to know a little, than a complete stranger. For example, at this last breakfast there were only 8 members there. It was an unusually small breakfast. But, by the time it was over, everyone there had made beneficial connections. The hospital got some TV's off their hands that will benefit Goodwill, the Food Bank will be recieving needed donations, The Chamber will be recieving their advertising for Christmas on Main donated, Santa and Mrs. Claus' transportation will be donated in a spectacular way, and a couple of job openings were announced. When you get to know the other business owners in your area, you end up supporting one another in many ways. Networking with members of other Chambers does the same thing. That is why we are partnering with the Vail Chamber, and we will start sharing information with the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce too. Going to mixers and breakfasts is a very important habit to get into. Besides, we announce differant  things that are going on in our area that will effect businesses and citizens. We are the voice for our members and what our members want. Our job is to help keep Benson a business friendly place. By keeping  abreast on various issues going on, you can ensure your voice and concerns will be heard by your Chamber.
If you would like to start coming to the Chamber breakfasts, they are every 3rd Thursday of the month, at 7 a.m. @ Galleano's Restaurant. Hope to see you there!

Coming up in January

After the first of the year the Benson/San Pedro Valley Chamber of Commerce will be concentrating efforts on meeting our new business owners in the Benson area,. We have been alerted to a few new businessess in town and would like to welcome them to Benson. We invite you to get to know your neighbors as well. Networking works! It helps people know you are in the area and what service you offer.
