Welcome to Capital Venture!
No, we are not venture capitalists. Our name comes as a result of the focus on capital campaigns, in particular campaigns for smaller organizations and those without a large development staff. Over the years, our scope of services has expanded and a much of our time is spent on development audits development plans and board development.
However, we think the name Capital Venture still suits us. Here’s why: for many nonprofit organizations even though their needs may not be for bricks and mortar campaigns, we think the word capital is very appropriate. If you look at the dictionary definition of capital you will see phrases like: “principal,” “highly important,” “chief,” “a form of wealth,” “assets,” “excellent.” Now, more than ever, fundraising is becoming a chief or principal effort of most nonprofit organizations. It is, for many, one of the main sources of wealth and building their assets.
Further along in the dictionary if you look up the word, “venture,” you will see descriptions such as “involving uncertainty,” “risk,” “dare,” “be bold enough,” “something is risked in hope of a profit.” Fundraising does involve risk however the return can be great. Organizations sometimes need to be bold in their fundraising efforts. They need to risk time and money and precious human resources in order to be successful.
Our goal at Capital Venture is to help organizations determine how much time, effort and personnel they should risk in order to build their capacity. And, more importantly to help nonprofits reach a state of excellence in their fundraising efforts, and to assure that fundraising is done in a professional and ethical manner.
This desire on our part to see nonprofits succeed has led us to focus much of our efforts on training and education. So you will see on our website a lot of free tools to help nonprofits in their fundraising “ventures.” You will also see that we are involved in a lot of training, both in person and through the Internet. And, we offer a special subscription service, The Fundraiser's Private Vault, for nonprofits who want to have access to even more valuable tools on an ongoing basis.
