Small Business Saturday November 26, 2016
Launched back on November 27, 2010 in Massachusetts, Small Business Saturday is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retailers and e-commerce stores. By contrast, Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local. The first event was sponsored by American Express and was promoted nationwide. Now, known as one of the largest shopping days for local small businesses, Small Business Saturday is recognized across the states as another way to catch great deals; all while supporting local small businesses. This year, Small Business Saturday is on November 26. If you miss it, don’t worry; shopping local is a great way to sustain a local economy anytime of the year!
We have several retailers and small businesses that have some very unique gifts for the holidays. If gifts aren’t your thing, many of our retailers carry items for everyday use. For example, Ruben’s Woodcrafts; they have some incredibly unique gifts for kids and adults alike, like retro board games and of course, wood crafts. They also host kids craft time every Saturday with a story along with craft time. As you know, Boulder City is an antique haven with some amazing local shops that cater to antique collectors and repurposed items. Stores like Younique Antiques & Gifts and Bloom feature reused, repurposed furniture and other goodies. Maybe you’re looking for a great salon to pamper yourself or someone you know. There is no shortage of salons in town like Serenity Salon and Spa, Creative Hair, Skin, & Nails, Attractions Salon, Healing Hands Esthetics, and Aura Sutra Wellness Studio and Spa, just to name a few. Boulder City Soap and Candle company offers homemade soaps, where you can check out the soap ‘curing’ on the back shelf before it’s packaged for sale!
If shopping isn’t your thing, you can still support small business by contacting local folks for your services. Xtreme Clean Mobile Services will come to you for auto detailing and Sew Eclectic will be happy to alter your fine dresses or suits. Boulder City is also home to many home based businesses like Lularoe by Erika McDonald, Mary Kay, Thirty-One Gifts, Thrive Life and Glamour Girls Spa Parties. Whatever your fancy, Boulder City small businesses have what you’re looking for. Get out and visit a local business or two this holiday season and shop local!
