Weekly Chamber Broadcast Email ~ The Chamber Means Business

2010 Census

I attended the first Valley wide planning meeting for conducting the 2010 Census next April 1st.  As the date gets closer, please watch for more information on how to apply for one of the many temporary jobs that will be available, for details on how and when the counts are conducted, and for information on how the Census effects us here in Boulder City.  Our Census numbers effect not only Congressional representation, Electoral Votes, and State Legislative districts, but also much needed Federal dollars that come into our State.

If you'd like to see what they are doing currently, please check out www.2010census.gov for further details.

Wurstfest Needs You!!

If you would like to be a volunteer at Wurstfest and help raise money for the BC Senior All-Night Graduation Party, all while having the greatest time of your life...then call Jill and let her know you want to sign up.  Available jobs range from working in the beer booth to monitoring the children's play zone.  You're going to be there anyway, might as well get a few service hours in while you're at it!

Wurstfest is just around the corner, September 26th, so call me soon.  293-2034

Chamber Website Training

Thank you to all of those members that attended the Website Training Session held last month.  Attendees' feedback was very positive so we requested future classes from EC Town USA.  EC responed one better...a monthly training class, on the first Wednesday of every month, at 9am.

This class will be held online and will be FREE to all members.  The class dates are on our calendar of events and reminder emails will be sent.  Class spaces are limited, so sign in early on the day of class.

This opportunity allows you to have other employees monitor the class at the same time so you can train your staff right in your own office.  Take full advantage of your FREE website and FREE training classes on how to optimize that site.

Call the Chamber with any questions.  293-2034

Excellent Mixer

A BIG thank you goes out to Lake Mead Cruises and Embarq for hosting the Mixer this past week.  It was a beautiful night to be on the Lake and great company to network with.  Thank you also to Dawn Walker with Mary Kay for joining the Chamber and having her ribbon cutting on the dock.  The Chef deserves a huge round-of-applause for an outstanding meal.

Mark your calendars for the October Mixer on the 14th at 6pm.  It will start 30 minutes later than usual to accommodate the City Staff's schedule.  This event will be held at the Police Department and is hosted by the City.  We will be touring the newly remodeled facility and meeting the officers and support staff.

FUN Fund-raising

Do you remember "Let's Make A Deal"?  Well it's back!  And it's filming in Las Vegas at the Tropicana Hotel.  We have a chance to attend as a group of Chamber members and raise money for the Chamber Scholarship program at the same time.

If you would like to join us on September 28th at 2pm for a taping of Let's Make a Deal and potentially be one of the crazy audience members that wins what's behind door number 2, please call the Chamber or respond to this email and I'll add you to the list.  Space is limited, tickets are free, so reply as soon as you know you can get away for the afternoon.  You must be at least 18 to attend.  The promoter says each contestant has a 1 in 18 chance of winning on each show.  LET'S MAKE A DEAL and advertise Boulder City at the same time!!!  I've already started making my DAM costume...so no one take my idea.

Thunder Roads Magazine

The Chamber recently signed a contract with the motorcycle magazine Thunder Roads of Nevada.  We will be advertising on a Boulder City page and you have the opportunity to do the same.  Moe Bedard, the publisher, will be the contact person if you're interested in participating.  His number is 353-6918.

Save the Date-November 13th

A Taste for the Arts.  An evening of food, fun, auction and entertainment benefiting the Boulder City Public Art Scape.  The event will be at Boulder Creek Pavilion and is sponsored by Fisher Space Pen, Boulder Dam Credit Union and Burk Enterprises.

There will be free food tasting presented by Boulder Dam Brew Pub, Capriotti's Sandwich Shop, Evan's Old Town Grille, Milo's Best Cellars, Southwest Diner, Boulder Dam Hotel Restaurant, Milo's Inn at Boulder, Remedy's Tavern, Tony's and Chef Flemming's Bake Shop.

Live music by Jennifer M. Hill on the beautiful harp and Boulder City Circle.  There will be a silent and live auction and great door prizes.  If you would like to decorate a Christmas tree or wreath for the auction, please contact Darlene Burk as soon as possible.

This year, they have added a very special event called a Wine Pull.  A wine pull  typically collects 100-plus bottles of wine from family donations and merchants.  Values range from $20.00 on up.  Each bottle is tagged with a hidden number.  At the auction, guests pay a set dollar amount (no more than the least expensive bottle of wine) and select a numbered cork which corresponds to one of the tagged bottles.  Guests could win a bottle worth double,  triple or more than their ticket purchase.  Tickets will be available prior to the event by contacting Darlene at 293-7731 or at the Chamber office.
