Spring Jamboree 2018 Update

Boulder City Chamber of Commerce

Another successful Spring Jamboree is in the books! We had some beautiful weather, awesome vendors and some new food vendors which made for an amazing weekend and so far our all time best in the 41 years. It's amazing what low winds and sunshine can do for events here in Boulder City! We appreciate all of the vendors and local businesses that donated to our raffle and participated by hosting a booth space. We hope you generated a lot of traffic to your booths, enjoyed good sales or generated some good leads for follow up. We'd like to give a special shout-out to the following local businesses who donated to our raffle this year: 28 Sunflowers, Ooh La La, Rail Explorers, Back in Thyme, Amethyst Reiki, Serenity Salon and Spa, Serenity Helicopters, Fisher Space Pen, Cascata, Fox BBQ, Boulder Creak Grill, Boulder Dam Brewing Co, The Forge/Dillinger/The Tap, China Bistro, Flightlinez Bootleg Canyon, Auto Specialists, Papillon Helicopters, Ragtown Tattoo, 5 Star Helicopters, Dam Short Film Festival, Sin City Fat Bikes, Massage by Dawn, Desert Adventures, Black Canyon River Adventures, Dairy Queen of Boulder City, Southwest Diner, The Homestead, Mary Kay-Denise Senko, Travel Nevada, Chilly Jillyz, Bloom, Hoover Dam Lodge, Water World, Downtown Dental, Monica Preston, LuLaRoe, Merissa Freitas, LuLaRoe Lady Luck, See Spot Run, and Storybook Homes. 3rd Think Tank Meeting Scheduled for May 21

Jill Lagan, CEO

Our third Boulder City Think Tank meeting is scheduled for Monday May 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Elaine K. Smith building. If you've never attended a Think Tank meeting, this was inspired by the amazing ideas of our residents and community to help think of ways that makes Boulder City unique and marketable. This is a proactive activity as a result of Interstate 11 opening sooner than expected and is designed to help generate tourism to our town. Don't feel as though you can't attend this meeting just because you may have missed the first two. These meetings are designed for people to jump in at any time, volunteering for projects, spearheading some of the activities or simply just providing your ideas. We hope to see you there!

Workforce Connections Launches Work Experience Program

Workforce Connections

Did you know that Workforce Connections has a paid work experience program for 18-24 year olds? This gives youth the opportunity to gain valuable exposure to new careers. They currently have an applicant who is interested in office work or working with animals. She has a plethora of experience and if you're interested in interviewing her you can contact Gina Garcia at 702-215-9418 or you can email her at ggarcia@nvcareercenter.org. All wages and liability is covered by Workforce Connections for the opportunity for them to learn these valuable skills. Workforce Connections also offers on-the-job training for adults where they pay half of the wages during their training period. Again, if you are interested in participating, Gina is happy to answer any of your questions. This is a great way to hire local residents and give them some valuable job experience.

Marketing to Gen Z - Business Corner

Monica Preston, President, Board of Directors

Does your marketing plan include Generation Z? If not, you will want to have a plan. Millennials have been on our radar for sometime as a generation that has monopolized our business marketing dollars and it's time to start thinking of this new generation born between 1995 and 2012. Generation Z, as they are called, will account for approximately 40% of all consumers by 2020 (can you believe that's less than 2 years away?). Now some things we know about Gen Z is that they are consumed by social media, which is why we recommend that every business have some sort of social media presence and strategy to create a presence that will attract these new consumers. They do spend more time reading magazines and newspapers without interruption than on social media, which means they value print when they are looking for their news and information resources. Check out this article published on Flipboard (which is an amazing "pinterest" for business articles!) talking more about this unique generation! If you need any assistance with your social media presence, please don't hesitate to reach out! We can assist you with resources to help you maximize your reach as well as help you strategize based on your target customers. If you don't follow us on our social media channels, make sure you do! We are on Facebook, Instagram, Google Plus and Twitter!
