Renewed Investors for July

A BIG THANK YOU to our renewed investors in July! Your paid investment helped us when we needed it most and while we know you could put your marketing dollars anywhere, we appreciate that you put it with us. We would love to hear your story about how your Chamber investorship has helped you! Share with us over on Facebook or reply to this email and share your story! And if you're a renewed investor for July, we tagged your business (or listed it) on our Facebook page! Make sure you give our page a follow so we can easily tag your business. How do you tag a business on Facebook? It's easy and preferred when you want to take advantage of other business's audience. use the @ symbol before typing in a businesses name and their 'tag' will auto populate if they have a Facebook  page.

Facebook business tip: Make your handle (the @ symbol) easy for your customers to find you. Typically it will be the Facebook page's business name, occassionally you have to add something to it to distinguish your page from another that may share the same name. For example "Clear Vision Eye Center"; this is a national chain so in order to identify your local office, consider adding Boulder City to the end of your handle.

Leave No Trace - A Call for Picking Up Your Trash

The COVID pandemic has certainly changed a lot of things in our lives but some have forgotten that we still have a duty to the environment and our fellow humans. In our desire to get out of our homes and partake in the lovely outdoors that Nevada has to offer, here is your gentle reminder to please pick up after yourselves. We kindly ask you to leave the place you visit just as you found it, clean and trash free. And if you didn't find it trash free, be an eco-hero and use gloves and trash bags to pickup. We all have a duty to keep the earth clean as well as it's a nice thing to leave for the people coming to visit the area behind you.

Here are 7 things you can do to Leave No Trace and ways you can be prepared while you're visiting the great outdoors. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful place; let's keep it that way and encourage others to do the same.

Be a good eco-steward tip: Keep a small supply of gloves, trashbags, and a grabber in your vehicle. It makes cleaning up your mess so much easier! And take your own trash with you if you find local trash cans are full. Please don't continue to pile on the garbage.

Clean Energy Corner

Governor Sisolak has directed his administration through Executive Order 2019-22 to evaluate policies and regulatory strategies, including but not limited to those identified pursuant to Senate Bill 254 from the 2019 Legislative Session, to achieve reductions in GHG emissions consistent with Nevada’s commitment as a member of the U.S. Climate Alliance. Nevada has set goals of reducing statewide GHG emissions 28% by 2025 and 45% by 2030, compared to 2005 levels. The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) is evaluating adoption of these emission standards for new motor vehicles sold in Nevada as programs to reduce emissions from the transportation sector, which today accounts for the largest percentage of GHG emissions.

See more here for a comprehensive list of things to consider when buying a new vehicle in Nevada and for more information on LEV and ZEV standards.

Southern Nevada Veterans Home Celebrates 18th Anniversary with Drive Through Parade

Southern Nevada State Veterans Home
Celebrates 18th Anniversary this August

(Boulder City, Nev.) – The Southern Nevada State Veterans Home (SNSVH), managed by the Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS), is celebrating its 18thanniversary this month.

SNSVH maintains a 5-Star rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), the highest rating possible. This year, the SSNVH has reason to celebrate: 33 residents and staff have recovered from COVID-19. One resident and four staff members are currently positive with COVID-19, down from much higher numbers earlier this year.

“For all of us at SNSVH every day is a new day, a new challenge and a new learning experience,” said Eli Quinones, SNSVH Administrator. “Each day is an open opportunity to serve those who served us with much sacrifice."

On Saturday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m., family and community members are invited to show their support for both residents and staff by participating in a drive-thru at the SNSVH. Participants are asked to decorate their vehicles, play music and blow noisemakers, or just keep it simple with a wave and a smile. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, participants must stay in their vehicles at all times. The first 100 vehicles will receive a gift bag, limit one gift bag per vehicle.

“These past six months have been the most difficult in the 18-year history of the SNSVH,” said Kat Miller, NDVS Director. “Yet even so, our residents and staff faced the trials of this pandemic with courage and with grace.  We could not be prouder of them.”

The SNSVH opened in 2002 with the first veterans admitted in August of that year. Located 23 miles southeast of Las Vegas in Boulder City, Nev., SNSVH is a state-owned and state-operated facility receiving support from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Within the 82,000 square foot facility, the Home can accommodate 180 residents in three living units called neighborhoods, including one unit with 24-beds providing two levels of secured care living for individuals suffering from advanced cognitive impairment. Each neighborhood has dedicated staff providing 24-hour skilled nursing care with a clinical team committed to "Caring for America's Heroes".

NDVS is dedicated to helping Nevada veterans get the services, benefits and quality of life they deserve. In addition to offering benefits counseling and assistance, which includes filing VA claims at no cost, NDVS manages the Northern and Southern Nevada State Veterans Homes and Veterans Memorial Cemeteries. For more information, please visit www.veterans.nv.gov.
