Branch County Democrats

Branch County Dems represented at Michigan Democratic Party “Legacy Dinner”

DETROIT – Coldwater residents representing the Branch County Democrats were in attendance Saturday evening, May 18, for the Michigan Democratic Party’s annual Legacy Dinner.  This year the party honored the legacy of the late Congressman John Dingle.  The evening included remarks from Governor Whitmer, Attorney General Nessel, Senators Stabenow and Peters as well as several of Michigan’s Democratic Congresspersons.  Those in attendance from Coldwater were Ms. Anita Hoyt, Treasurer of the Branch County Dems, David McMillan, Branch County Democratic Chair, and his wife Carol McMillan.

During the evening’s program, several volunteers from the 14 Michigan Congressional Districts were honored for their work and contributions to the Party’s recent successes.  For the first time, a Branch County volunteer was singled out for his efforts on behalf of the Party.  David McMillan was one of two volunteers from the 7th Congressional District to receive his award from Congressman Andy Levin.

The Branch County Democrats are affiliated with the Michigan Democratic Party and share the objective of supporting and electing high quality candidates who represent the Democratic Party’s principles of fair, inclusive, transparent, and honest government.  For more about our organization, go to: www.branchcountydemocrats.com

Branch County Association of REALTORS (B.C.A.R.)

The Branch County Association of REALTORS® (BCAR) held its sixth annual “White Elephant Scholarship Auction” April 24th at Wings, Etc.  BCAR members donate items to be auctioned off with proceeds going to the “Cliffie Bowers Memorial Scholarship”.  The luncheon was sponsored by BCAR affiliate member Eric Ellison (Infinity Mortgage Associates).  Through their enthusiastic bidding, the auction raised over $5,000.   When combined with cash donations from many friends & family members of Cliffie Bowers over the past year, BCAR will surpass last year's total of eight $500 scholarships to graduating Branch County High School students!

BCAR is having a Food Drive!  It costs a family with 2 children in school an additional $400 to $500 to feed them during the summer!  This is our sixth year of donating to local food pantries who provide for the extra demand due to children being home for summer vacation.  Century Bank & Trust and Branch County Abstract & Title are sponsoring the event.  Please drop off non-perishable food items to the BCAR Office (28 W. Chicago St., Ste.# 1-E) between June 17th - June 26th.

Habitat for Humanity Restore

Habitat for Humanity of Branch County announces new Restore hours and product lines.

Coldwater, Mi – Habitat for Humanity of Branch County has good news for those who enjoy shopping at their Restore, located at 255 Division Street in Coldwater.

“Along with the donated items that we’ve traditionally offered, shoppers will now find new lines of retail products, including a complete paint department, tarps and other products that have been requested by do-it-yourselfers who frequent the Restore. Due to demand, we’ve also extended our hours. Effective immediately, the Restore will be open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12-5; Wednesdays from    1-6; and Saturdays from 9-2.“ stated Executive Director Cheri Murphy.

Habitat for Humanity of Branch County’s Restore serves families by accepting donations of good used items and reselling them for an affordable price. “We accept good used furniture, appliances, building materials and lots of miscellaneous.” Cheri stated. “An old washing machine that someone isn’t using could be donated and purchased by a family that is currently using a laundromat. That’s quite a difference that one donation can make.” All funds from sales at the Restore stay in the organization to help build homes in Branch County.

Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in approximately 70 countries, with the vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward that vision by partnering with families in need, who then help build their own homes alongside volunteers. Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

If you’d like to learn more about volunteer opportunities, donating to or shopping at the Restore, or becoming a Habitat homeowner, please email habitatbranchcounty.director@gmail.com, or call 517.279.2200.

Pansophia Academy

NEW PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM AT PANSOPHIA ACADEMY

Pansophia Academy has a new performing arts program. The Pansophia Academy Drama Society performed the classic story of Little Women last weekend, with over 120 people in attendance. Both the cast and the crew worked hard to exceed expectations for the show. Pansophia Academy recognizes the importance of drama and performing arts in education. Whether students perform in productions or help behind the scenes, studying drama and performing arts not only engages students’ creativity, but also provides an ideal balance between academics and arts. The Pansophia Academy Drama Society is excited to perform more shows in the future.

CONGRATULATIONS TO PANSOPHIA ACADEMY'S 2019 GRADUATING CLASS

Pansophia Academy seniors on their last day of school enjoyed a Senior Breakfast at Broadway Grill and walked through the school one last time with teachers, students and parents watching. As we say goodbye to our seniors, we want to reflect on the impact they have made on our school. We wish you luck in your future endeavors and thank you for choosing Pansophia Academy as your high school.

FINA ARTS NIGHT

On May 15, Pansophia Academy fine arts students performed in Fine Arts Night. Art, band and choir students showed the school what they had been working on this year. After the performances, awards for art and music were given out to deserving students. The best group performance was awarded in order to Loren Brois, Alexis Wainscott and Stepheni Caudill and Rachel Centers. Pansophia Academy is proud of their fine arts program and its students, who share their musical and artistic talents with the community.

FREE NIDRA YOGA CLASS

The 2nd Tuesday of every month from 7:00-7:30 pm at All Things Serenity Yoga Studio in Union City a free Nidra yoga class (also called yoga sleep) is sponsored by the Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence and ATS.  The Coalition's UC office is located at 106 E. High Street, Union City in the All Things Serenity Yoga & Event Center building.  Yoga nidra, also known as dynamic sleep, prompts the body to relax deeply while the mind remains inwardly alert. One 30-minute practice of yoga nidra equals approximately two hours of deep sleep. ... The goal is to finally achieve a “hypnagogic state” — the state between wakefulness and sleep.  One doesn't have to be a survivor of sexual or domestic abuse to attend this class.  It is a healing, loving, kind, supportive class, also excellent for stress, anxiety, emotional or physical trauma of any kind.
