Committee Cuts $70,000 From Budget; Cooke, Ridgeway Hot Topi (04/13/11)
Over 6 hours of hearings over 2 consecutive night by the Administrative Services Committee yielded about $70,000 in proposed budget cuts, police presence to remove a citizen, and a motion to completely eliminate the salary of a department head.
During a budget presentation by Barbara Neal, Wayne Cooke, a vocal opponent of the current administration and current litigant in 4 legal cases with the town of Branford regarding the actions of the assessor, asked a question regarding the assessor that was not directly budget related. Chairman Gail Chapman Carbone insisted questions stick to the budget, but Cooke continued.
