About Harris' Smokehouse
For me, Harris' Smokehouse began when I was a child. I remember Sunday afternoon when the church was dismissed, everyone ended up at our house for fellowship and food – my mother fixing the sides and my father cooking the meats. There I was watching, not even realizing that I was learning about cooking catfish, brisket, ribs, prime rib, pulled pork, turkey, chicken, and ham – all being prepared on one Sunday or another. As the years went by my father, Bishop Abraham Harris, Jr. was perfecting the Harris' collection of secret rubs, spices, sauces, and even jerky. While my father was perfecting what you see today, I was busy praying and finding the perfect wife for me. Doris Elaine Harris came into my life, a true gift from God (but that's another story). Before my father's death, he handed down all his barbeque and cooking secrets to me. My dream of bringing the taste of what he and my mother had created could now be brought to the general public. I thank God for Doris...she's worked very hard to make this dream a reality. Doris and I established Harris' Smokehouse in 1998. Since then, we have provided barbeque for family, friends, and the public. Be it a party, wedding, or city event, someone always asks us, “When are you going to open a restaurant?” As it says in Ecclesiastes 3:1, “For everything, there is a season....” Now is our season. So it's with sincerest hopes that you find as much love and joy in our food as we do in preparing it for you.
