Arizona Secretary of State Michele Reagan - Wednesday 3 pm, Coyote Branch Library

Buckeye Library Receives $25,000 State Grant to Identify Underserved Community, Proactively Plan for City’s Expected Future Growth
Buckeye, Ariz. (June 16, 2016) – The Buckeye Public Library has received a $25,000 grant for a community assessment of library usage and to plan for the anticipated future community needs for library services as the city’s population increases.
Buckeye Library Manager Jana White said Arizona Secretary of State Michele Reagan will officially present the Library Services and Technology Act grant check to the library at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at the library’s Coyote Branch, 21699 W. Yuma Rd.
White said the grant will fund “data mining” by a consultant group made up of former Arizona library directors who served in rapidly-growing communities like Buckeye.  That experience, White indicated, will help with determining the current system’s customer reach, where they live and how they’re using library services.
Statistics concerning the Buckeye’s bookmobile that travels regularly to neighborhoods throughout the city’s expansive limits will also be studied because it is a valuable resource for a large, fast-growing community, White explained.
“The second phase will be gathering information to help us plan for the future and how other related municipal services such as schools and parks play into the need for expanded services as the city grows,” White said.
The study will dovetail with the city’s current General Plan update so that there is no duplication of that “data mining,” and information gleaned by the library’s consultants will be used in both groups’ studies, she added.
