We’re Making a Difference in the Communities We Serve
October is breast cancer awareness month and our associates are helping raise awareness in hopes of one day eradicating breast cancer forever! Join us as we lace up our sneakers or put on our stilettos at community events across our five state operating area.
The Reality
It is estimated that there will be over 230,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer in the U.S. this year, according to komen.org. With all the information available, most experts agree:
Breast cancer is the most common cancer found in women.
Breast cancer can strike both men and women.
Early detection and treatment are essential to survival rates.
Mammograms are the most reliable way to detect breast cancer.
Diet and exercise can make a difference.
How You Can Help
Breast cancer doesn't have to be fatal. Consider making a difference in your local community by:
Registering for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® or the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure® at www.komen.org.
Strutting in style at the 2011 Glam-A-Thon event in South Florida, www.glam-a-thon.com.
Sponsoring someone who is participating in an awareness event or by making a direct donation to a breast cancer nonprofit.
Purchasing breast cancer awareness/pink ribbon items. Retailers, including Publix, are supporting breast cancer research by selling awareness-branded items. A portion of the sales/proceeds are typically donated to breast cancer organizations or local research hospitals..
About Susan G. Komen
In 1982, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure was launched by Nancy G. Brinker in memory and tribute to her sister, Susan. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of survivors and supporters fighting to save lives.
