About Us
In 1981, the Sargent Farm Foundation was founded to raise funds for the relocation and restoration of the Stephen Sargent Farm at Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site. Since then the Foundation has evolved into a philanthropic organization, known today as the Lincoln-Sargent Farm Foundation, committed to the restoration and preservation of the entire site, as well as to the support of educational programming that effectively interprets the historic properties at Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site. The Foundation supports one of the most unique educational programs among historic sites. The Live-In Program allows fifth grade classes to experience rural life during the mid-1800s. Students participate in living history activities, which include mucking barns, splitting rails, candle dipping, and making “Johnny cake.” The Foundation also sponsors the Summer Youth Program where children spend nine weeks volunteering at the site and participating in the site’s living history programming. Preservation efforts, such as restoration of the Moore Home, are critical needs being met by the Foundation.
Make the Visitor Center your first stop as you prepare to travel back to the nineteenth century. While in our Visitor Center, enjoy the exhibit galleries highlighting the Lincolns and Sargents as well as a 14-minute film about the Lincolns, Sargents, 1840s life, and the site's living history program. This film will prepare you for your visit to the farms. Volunteers staff the visitor center and can assist you in your visit to the site as well as your stay in Central Illinois. Be sure to visit the Center on your returns to the site as new exhibits are introduced regularly.
The site also features abundant and convenient picnicking areas with electricity-supplied pavilions, grills, restrooms, playground equipment and water fountains, as well as natural areas for walks, fishing and bird-watching. Pavilions may be reserved in advance. Grounds are open until dusk.
