Could Chester Become a Christmas Town?

Could we be on our way to becoming the best little town in Northern California to visit during the holidays? Maybe so!

Put yourself on our Christmas Map!

Help our visitors and community find this year's best decorations. Homeowners or Businesses send us a photo of your place decorated to the nines and we will put you on our digital  map for "auto touring" during the holidays.

Submit your photo and address to info@lakealmanorarea.com.  The map will debut next week and we will continue to add to it until Christmas.

Almanor Fishing Report

John Crotty

11/29/20
There have been no significant changes to weather or water levels over the past week, conditions will remain the same for at least the next seven days. Morning temps around 20 with daytime temps approaching 50 degrees. Lake level is up fractionally, water temp is around the mid-forties and visibility remains 5-8’.

Fish continue to chase pond smelt, the smelt have moved offshore as have the fish. Yesterday we started fishing at the dam, moved to flag island, moved to Rec#2 and finally found some bait and fish on the East Shore where we picked up a half dozen fish. We caught our fish slow trolling gulps at one mph with 15-20’ deep on the wire the best depth. Fish are scattered and moving daily. Start out fast trolling hardware until you find bait/fish, if they won’t take your offering slow down and mix up baits. The fish are in great shape and fight hard.

Bank fishing the coves will produce fish, the bite is far from red hot and most fish caught are smaller with reports of a few larger fish in the mix. Hamilton Branch remains your best option from shore.

Roads are clear, they can be icy in the mornings. Canyon Dam boat ramp is open. Plumas County has joined most other Counties in California and we are currently under the purple (COVID) rating.

Please enjoy this photo I took of our beautiful lake today.

Holiday Season at Lassen Volcanic Park

Kevin Sweeney

MINERAL, CA – Lassen National Park Highway (CA State Hwy 89), which is the main road through Lassen Volcanic National Park, has closed for the winter. However, the park remains open throughout the year for visitors to recreate responsibly in their public lands. Those planning to visit during the winter months should plan ahead by checking the weather and the park website before venturing to the park.

Ten inches of snow currently covers the ground at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center (6,700 feet in elevation). In the northwest area of the park, at the Loomis Museum (5,900 feet in elevation) there are small patches of snow along the Manzanita Lake trail. Cross-country skiing along the park road is possible at higher elevations. However, snow is still very shallow, preventing sledding and making backcountry skiing hazardous. Visitors should be advised that a temporary camping closure remains in place east of the Lassen National Park Highway.

Lake Almanor Community Foundation Update

The board of directors are excited to announce a new look for the Lake Almanor Community Foundation with a logo that embraces what we celebrate about the Greater Lake Almanor Basin.  The logo was chosen over a selection of six options choosing this design since it included the essence of the area and also had a nostalgic and vintage feel. Since so many of us share coming up here when LACC was in its infancy, it seemed an appropriate choice.  We look forward to offering hats, shirts and tees emblazoned with new logo as a fundraiser for LACF this spring.
