The Science Museum of Virginia is seeking 3-4 dynamic, highly motivated individuals to join our team of part time sales associates serving visitors in our Museum Store, Grab-and-Go Café and Dome Concession Stand. These individuals provide excellent customer service while assisting museum guests with purchases in a quick and courteous manner.
Other tasks include accurately operating the cash register while performing various sales transactions in a fast-paced environment; restocking and creatively displaying merchandise; assisting with receiving and ticketing merchandise; and performing opening and closing procedures.
The ideal candidate must have an interest in science, be outgoing, enjoy working with the public, be self-motivated and work well both independently and as a team member. The average work week may range up to 29 hours and shifts require availability to work weekdays and weekends between 8:30 A.M. and 5:30 P.M. Additional availability is required for holidays and occasional evenings depending on museum programming and events.
This is a temporary seasonal position that requires availability from mid-late May through Labor Day.

Qualifications:
Experience in specialty retail sales, direct customer service, heavy cash handling, and computerized register operation is required. Availability to work weekdays, weekends and state, federal and local holidays is required. Must possess excellent oral communication skills, problem solving skills, and must enjoy working with children and be comfortable with crowds. A High School diploma or equivalent training and experience, the ability to perform basic math computations, heavy lifting, the ability to stand for long periods of time and work well under pressure is required.
Cash register daily reconciliation experience and experience in opening/closing procedures. An interest in science and food service experience is preferred. Spanish language proficiency and ASL also preferred.
Must be able to work weekends, holidays and occasional evenings.
