The Bed and Breakfast is located at 2 Chestnut Street at the corner of Lake Street in the Village of Cooperstown NY. The original house was built in 1812. The present structure dates from 1868. Dr. Horace Lathrop, Cooperstown's leading citizen at the time, had the house constructed near the lake.
The 17 room Victorian mansion has been flawlessly preserved in it's original French Second Empire design. The three story home has a metal mansard roof, four fireplaces and the first floor hallway and living room have the original tin ceiling.
The original floors have been restored on the first floor and the twelve foot ceilings and large windows give a light and airy feeling to the living areas.
Guests relax on the 30 foot Lake Street porch in a lush garden setting. Across the street sparkles Otsego Lake, the "Glimmerglass" of James Fenimore Cooper's novels.
