Youth and Senior Addiction Today in Our Communities

Contrary to popular belief, substance abuse is not limited to one type of person but affects millions of people from many different backgrounds.  According to the CDC binge drinking is a dangerous behavior for all ages.  Binge drinking is most common in the Midwest, it is estimated 23.9% of adults in Wisconsin have binged.  Heroin use is a part of a larger substance abuse problem.  Nearly all people who used heroin also used at least 1 other drug- most used at least 3 other drugs.  Join Holly Petrauskas,  Psychotherapist, and learn how to prevent, reduce the risks of addiction.

Professional Women's Networking Meeting

Join the Professional Women's Networking Group for an educational session on LinkedIn best practices and tips to improve your LinkedIn networking. Steve Solano of Prescient Solutions will use his expertise and experience to present the session and be available to answer questions.

We will have networking from 8:30am-9:00am with the presentation starting at 9:00am.

June Summer Showcase Series

The Women's Center's new Summer Showcase Series is designed to share more information about several of our community partnerships. Featuring guest presenters and comments from our own leadership team, each breakfast session will highlight a different collaborative program.

Join us on June 20 to learn about the Lethality Assessment Protocol from Assistant District Attorney Michael Thurston of Waukesha County and Jessi Trauth, Director of Shelter & Transitional Living at The Women’s Center. A partnership with the DA’s office, the Waukesha Sheriff’s Department, and the Delafield Police Department, this new protocol helps officers better identify victims with a high risk for homicide, and helps connects all victims of domestic violence with resources at The Women’s Center.

Coffee and breakfast from Mama D’s Coffee will be available at 7:30am and the program will begin promptly at 7:40am, with opening remarks from Executive Director Angela Mancuso, followed by a presentation by ADA Thurston and Jessi, leaving time for questions and optional tours of the agency from 8:30 – 9am.
 

July Summer Showcase Series

The Women's Center's new Summer Showcase Series is designed to share more information about several of our community partnerships. Featuring guest presenters and comments from our own leadership team, each breakfast session will highlight a different collaborative program.

Join us on July 25 to learn about the Waukesha County Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force from co-chairs Eric Calvino, Permanency Services Supervisor Waukesha County Child & Family Services Division, and Diane Ripple, Director of Programs & Services at The Women’s Center. Hear about the progress made by the Task Force in their first year, since the Anti-Human Trafficking Summit was held in June 2018.

Coffee and breakfast from Mama D’s Coffee will be available at 7:30am and the program will begin at 7:45am, with opening remarks from Executive Director Angela Mancuso followed by a presentation by Eric and Diane leaving time for questions and optional tours of the agency from 8:30 – 9am.
 

Wisconsin State Frog Jump

Frogs will be jumping at 64th Annual Wisconsin State Frog Jump in Dousman, WI. This event is a cherish tradition that is hosted at Dousman’s annual community festival called Dousman Derby Days. All ages are welcome to join in on this family-friendly event, where young and old try coaxing their frog into jumping the longest distant. Registration will start at 12:30pm and last until 3:30pm on Saturday July 27th and Sunday July 28th. Jumping starts at 1:00pm and final calls for jumpers will start at 4:00pm both days. Frogs will be available to rent during the event for an additional dollar, in case you are unable to provide your own. The event will take place on the baseball diamond at Cory Park off of Main Street in Dousman. 

 

Outdoor Sports Tournament (OST)

The Outdoor Sports Tournament (OST) is one of five State Games which includes athletic competition in tennis, bocce & softball. Healthy Athletes disciplines Special Smiles, Fit Feet & Health Promotions will also be offered at this Tournament.

Join us on August 15 as Executive Director Angela Mancuso reflects on our Unprecedented Demand: Past, Present, and Future. Learn about the motivation to establish The Women’s Center in 1977, the continued rise in demand throughout our history, and an insight into future plans to address the community’s needs.

Coffee and breakfast from Mama D’s Coffee will be available at 7:30am, with the program beginning at 7:45am and time for questions and optional tours of the agency until 9am.

Starving Artists' Show

On September 8, the Starving Artists’ Show celebrates the milestone of 50 shows. This show features local and national artists who work in a diverse range of media including pottery, jewelry, painting, and glass. All artwork is priced for $100 or less. The $10 admission fee supports Mount Mary University scholarships. Don’t miss this year’s show, sponsored by the Mount Mary Alumnae Association! Learn more about the show at mtmary.edu/sas.

Lapham Peak Fright Hike
10/18/2019- 10/19/2019

Enter the dark forest at your own risk and behold ghoulish scenes as you walk over 1 mile of haunted trail. Watch your back for wandering spooks! Some scenes may be too scary for young children, parent discretion is advised. After the hike, enjoy live music and concessions by the bonfire. Ticket proceeds benefit The Friends of Lapham Peak, for projects within the Park, including snowmaking.
