West Angeles Community Development Corporation (CDC) was incorporated in 1994 with the intent of bringing together people and resources to help develop a better and healthier community.The mission of West Angeles CDC is to increase social and economic justice, demonstrate compassion and to alleviate poverty as a tangible expression through the vehicle of community development.
West Angeles CDC is a fifteen-year old organization with over $50 million in assets under management. The CDC provide programs and services in areas of Community Assistance, Dispute Resolution Services and Housing and Economic Development.
Over its history, the CDC has developed 400 new affordable housing units, secured $3 million in equity to finance a 45,000 square foot commercial complex; secured $3.2 million in equity to finance 110 newly constructed homes; trained over 1,500 young people in the art of mediation and dispute resolution by nonviolent measures; fed and clothed thousand of people in need and has helped to launch several dozen new viable minority-owned businesses.
West Angeles CDC is affiliated with the West Angeles Church of God in Christ (COGIC), under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Charles E. Blake. West Angeles Church now a 25,000 thousand-member congregation, has served as a spiritual leader in South Los Angeles for many years. Today, West Angeles COGIC is the largest landowner in the Crenshaw Corridor and has made a $60 million investment in the area with the development of its newly constructed 5,000-seat cathedral.
