MAKING HEREFORD BETTER

The photo says it all....Fireworks Cancellation

Our intent is not to appear gloomy, but, what better illustration to show exactly why the Fireworks
show has been cancelled for 2014. We are in extreme dry conditions and even if we were to receive 6" of rainfall, it may not be enought to proceed with the show. Unfortunately, we must make the decision now because we must give the fireworks company an answer and a deposit. We feel that the right thing to do is go ahead and cancel for this year. Hopefully conditions will be more conducive for a show in 2015. We will also be making a public appeal between now and then in order to finance a future presentation. Please understand our position and support it.

Chamber Mix & Mingle

The next Chamber Mix & Mingle is set for Thursday, May 15th at First Financial Bank. Mike and his staff will have a great venue in store for you. This is a member only event and is restricted to members and employees so invite all your employees. If you have a newcomer or prospective business member, of course invite them as well. We will be sending invitations by email soon.

News from EDC

Hereford Economic Development is very proud to be a feature article in the Chamber newsletter this month.  We continually work toward providing any tools our governing rules allow to existing businesses looking to expand and new businesses looking to make Hereford their new home.  Our United Amigos is still slated to open late summer early fall.  Our wind projects add up to 469mw total capacity to date.  We currently have 200mw of that total under construction.  We have been contacted by another firm that is building a wind project in Deaf Smith, Randall and Castro.  Our new restaurant prospects aren’t as strong as we would like.  We continue to run short on population minimums that most if not all restaurant chains require.  We are talking to two companies that will hopefully provide great news in the coming months.  Panhandle Implement has bought Oglesby Equipment on South Kingwood.  They will continue to sell farm machinery and lawn equipment.  The sports complex is planning to open its doors in late spring or early summer.  We continue to work on leadership and life skills in our workforce.  We are working on starting an apprenticeship with several high school seniors and our ethanol plants this summer.  We are using this initial relationship to create a blueprint that would allow other employers to offer the same.  Hereford is a strong vibrant community with a healthy economy.  We appreciate the opportunity to help Hereford grow and stay competitive in the future.
