After a post-undergrad move to Decorah and a venture in retail sales, Emily joined the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce in July 2010 (just two short weeks before Nordic Fest!) as the Central Receptionist. A native of southwest Winneshiek County, her love for the area was instilled early on, as she also spent a good portion of her summer vacations visiting and researching much of the history of Northeast Iowa, as her mother and aunt felt that their children should know what a rich community they were a part of, and that vacations were just another opportunity for an educational field trip (occasionally to the chagrin of their children). Emily is no stranger to the attractions of the area, having been an alternate Little Miss Laura in her younger years and working at the Bily Clocks and Antonin Dvorak Museum in high school. After graduating from college and spending time is several cities Emily found herself back in Northeast Iowa. Pleasantly surprised at how much the Decorah community has to offer young professionals, she decided that it wouldn't be a bad place to call home (again), and she is reminded daily how lucky she is to be a part of such a thriving community nestled in one of the most beautiful natural settings. Becoming a staff member of the Chamber and Winneshiek County Visitors and Convention Bureau has reinforced her passion for sharing the greatness of this community and all it has to offer.
Emily is very involved with the New Minowa Players Community Theatre, where she currently serves on the NMP Board of Directors. When you can't find her at the Chamber office or the theatre, Emily can most likely be seen taking advantage of every type of outdoor recreation the Decorah area has to offer (except skateboarding), taking in some fantastic dining at one of the many restaurants in the area, finding new recipes to make with local fare, singing with the Decorah Chorale or checking out any of the great events that always seem to be going on.
