About The West Volusia Beacon
The West Volusia Beacon newspaper was founded in 1992 by three DeLand-area residents who wanted to assure that the communities of DeLand, Lake Helen, Orange City, DeBary, Deltona, Pierson, DeLeon Springs, and Seville would have a locally owned newspaper.
The Beacon reports local news from these communities and the surrounding environs.
Our mission is to unite community members with shared information, empower them through knowledge, and help local businesses succeed by offering affordable marketing solutions.
We point out the positive but don't shy away from holding public officials accountable, and shining our Beacon light on community problems, to enable the community to work together to solve those problems.
The Beacon has 23 employees, and we also publish the work of local freelance writers and columnists. Both our news and graphic design teams have won multiple awards for their work.
West Volusia is our home, and we are deeply committed to producing the best possible local newspaper for West Volusias residents.
