Chamber Event News

Welcome

Gina and Nathan Prince opened their doors this summer and just became our newest chamber member.
Twisted Vine is an extension of Cuccia’s, serving tapas and lighter fare, noon to an early dinner, with Happy Hour, Sunday brunch, daily wine tastings and space available for special events like rehearsal dinners, birthdays, anniversaries and meetings.
We are excited to add them to a list of fine dining establishments in our area that give locals and visitors alike such a variety of cuisine from which to choose.

Shop Small® Saturday

By Donna Mills

You’ve all heard the statistics about how many times your locally spent dollar circulates in the community you live in, or how many jobs are created by locally owned businesses, or how small businesses support local events. All these things are true – but still, small businesses struggle with attracting local shoppers.
The core mission of the Lost Sierra Chamber of Commerce is providing support to our local business community. We realize the fate of our community's economic vitality is dependent upon robust commerce. I explain to our chamber members and prospective members that part of a chamber's job is to ensure our local businesses flourish by helping our community members understand the importance of supporting those who support them.
Small Business Saturday began ten years ago and is sponsored by American Express. The nationwide event, which takes place the Saturday following Thanksgiving, strives to promote small, locally owned, brick and mortar businesses across the United States with a plethora of marketing materials. If you are a LSCC member, you can participate in this event at no charge, and take advantage of the free materials and guidelines.
LSCC has tote bags, pennants, balloons, buttons, posters, handouts, information cards, pens, stickers and decals. If you would like to participate, swing by the office or give us a jingle and pick up supplies to promote your business on Small Business Saturday, November 30, 2019.

Graeagle Merchants Association will be hosting their own "SHOP LOCAL on Black Friday and Shop Small® Saturday!" event. They will be raffling off (6) Graeagle Bucks Gift Certificates valued at $25 each that can be redeemed at any participating member's business. Simply visit any of the participating businesses on Friday, November 29 and Saturday, November 30 to enter for a chance to win. Get an additional chance to win with every $10 spent.
Winner(s) will be notified by Sunday, December 1. You can follow them on Facebook & Social Media @GraeagleMerchants for a list of participating businesses.

Mohawk Community Art Fair

By Donna Mills

I remember the event when the Graeagle Preschool (a.k.a. and located at "The Peak" today) performed their holiday play on stage at the Graeagle Community Center across from the Chevron. Some say it's been a Graeagle holiday tradition for more than 30 years. As a parent of three GPS graduates...I would say WAY more!
Today, the Mohawk Community Art Faire fills the Graeagle Fire Hall and still provides your first opportunity at finding that unique, hard-to-find, hand-crafted gift item for that very special someone on your Christmas list.
With several new artists as well as past favorites, this local fair features handmade jewelry and skin care products, wood crafts, textiles, art and so much more. A Grand Prize Raffle, as well as a raffle of works of art by this year's vendors, refreshments, and much more will be on-going over the two day Faire.
"Shop Small" and support your local artisans Friday and Saturday, November 29 and 30. It's a great way to stay warm and dry, avoid the crowds, and get a jump on your holiday shopping!

Christmas in Old Town

It's almost here!
Commercial Street businesses are stringing lights, Santa's helpers are going CRAZY at the Chamber, putting the wraps on Santa treat bags, Golden Ticket prizes and the fundraising drawing for the Friday December 6 event.
The parade committee is still looking for entries for the light parade. If you know of someone, or would like to join yourself, please email portolaparade@gmail.com. It's easy. It's fun. It's a great way to promote your business. LED and battery lights make lighting up ANYTHING a snap!
It looks like a VERY full marketplace in the Caboose Plaza this year. We'll have a stage for entertainment and a bonfire in the Plaza as well. Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with children in the Sierra Promotions alcove across the way, where we hope to keep everyone dry and a little warmer.
We at the Lost Sierra would like to thank the business community for your overwhelming support of this event! To borrow a cliche, it TRULY "takes a village!" It is a horrendous amount of work and planning, but we love what we do and couldn't do it without you.
The outdoor market starts at 5 p.m., the parade at 6 p.m. Please, please tell folks to dress warm and be prepared for weather. We do live in the mountains and it gets bitterly COLD!
    See you there!

Graeagle Holiday Festival

The annual Graeagle Holiday Festival on Saturday, December 7 is a family fun event where downtown merchants help us get in the holiday spirit with open houses from 1 to 5 p.m.  Enjoy delicious refreshments and unique offerings at participating businesses.
You can also enter to win the Graeagle Bucks by visiting each participating merchant. Must be present to win - winners will be announced after the 5 p.m. tree lighting.
Take a horse-drawn trolley/sleigh ride and pictures with Santa. Stay warm by the bonfire and listen to live holiday music in the park.

All Aboard the Santa Trains

Enjoy rides aboard a festive holiday train covered in lights at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum starting Saturday, December 7.
Free homemade cookies, hot cider, coffee and hot chocolate. Special exhibits. Local vendors. And the kids get to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus!
Museum opens at 4 p.m. with train rides start at 5 p.m. and continue until everyone has a turn! (Usually about 8 p.m.)
Santa trains continue through December 21. Click here for more information: https://www.wplives.org/news_items/santa_trains_2019.html
