About Us
Dr. Kenneth W. Houchin, M.D.
Dr. Kenneth Houchin has proven capable in all major areas of ophthalmology, but what’s more is that he has been trained as a neuro-ophthalmologist, meaning he has a unique understanding of the eyes’ connection to the brain and how to treat injuries and related medical problems. He has received a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology and ocularplastics, meaning he is especially qualified to handle surgery on the more delicate parts of the eyes and the surrounding areas. So when you need expert treatment, you need to come to Elko Eye Center.
Dr. Houchin received his M.D. in 1985, followed by an internship in Internal Medicine and 2 separate residencies in Neurology & Ophthalmology at Loma Linda University in California. Dr. Houchin belongs to the American Academy of Neurology, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association and the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society. Dr. Houchin held various prestigious positions in the Neuro-Ophthalmology department at his alma mater in Loma Linda and practiced Neuro-Ophthalmology and Ocularplastics Surgery. While at Loma Linda, Dr. Houchin enjoyed lecturing and contributing to various scientific publications and presentations on a regional and national level. Away from the office, Dr. Houchin, a long time nature photographer, has been well received and recognized for his work with the NBC Network Today show, Hallmark Cards, Inc., & Southwestern Bell Telephone Company Publications, as well as contributing pieces on television, magazines, posters & postcards.
