The Nevada Area Council, BSA was granted a charter by the National Council, Boy Scouts of America in 1924. The council service area covers 25 counties in northern Nevada and northeastern California spanning over 139,000 square miles. The responsibility of the local council is to provide program support for Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Varsity Teams, Venturing Crews, Explorer Posts, and Learning for Life Groups. The Council provides a variety of program services including year round training for leaders, camp properties and outdoor activities, a full line of Scouting merchandise and support literature, individual Scout records and general liability insurance for all adult leaders and chartered organizations.
The Overland District of the Nevada Area Council, BSA serves over 1,500 youth and adults in Elko County and part of Eureka County.
