FMPD to Offer Active Shooter Training Course

http://www.cityoffortmorgan.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1229

The Fort Morgan Police Department is making available a training course for local businesses and residents to help local citizens be prepared in the event of an active shooter scenario.

Police Chief Darin Sagel said there is no known or specific threat in the community, and active shooter incidents remain rare. However, it is imperative to equip local citizens with the knowledge and preparation in the event such a thing should occur, Sagel said.

FMPD officers and other law enforcement personnel throughout Morgan County have undergone training and preparation for the response to the potential threat of an active shooter, and Sagel believes citizens need to train and prepare as well.

The police department will provide training courses for businesses that include lecture, handouts and practical demonstrations. The courses can be tailored to meet the needs and schedules of individual businesses, and can be conducted on-site at businesses or at the police department.

For more information, contact FMPD Officer Kevin Campbell by e-mail at kcampbell@cityoffortmorgan.com.

Morgan County Office of Emergency Management sponsoring presentation on Severe Weather Awareness

The Morgan County Office of Emergency Management is once again sponsoring a presentation on Severe Weather awareness.  This presentation will be conducted by Robert Glancy on Tuesday, April 5th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm, at the American Legion building at 16913 Rd 17.7, Fort Morgan.

Mr Glancy has been the Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the NWS for more than 20 years and has presented numerous presentations to citizens and the public safety community in Morgan County.

These talks are free and open to the public. At each session we offer basic training followed by advanced training.  You can be a certified Skywarn severe weather spotter after 90 minutes of basic training or stay for the advanced portion of the training.  The National Weather Service will count on you to be our "eyes" out in the field, when trying to verify severe weather across northeast Colorado. The National Weather Service in Boulder warns for 22 counties, and your reports are very helpful to us as we make warning decisions on severe thunderstorms.

We request that you register with the contact point for the talk you plan to attend.  In the event of spring snow storms, check this page for possible cancellations and updates.  For more information on Skywarn training, contact Robert.Glancy@noaa.gov
