On the Birthday of National Independence...

What an incredible evening! The 15^th annual Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce fireworks event was once again a success.  The evening would not have happened without the time and donations from our fabulous merchants and community, hard work and planning from the Chamber Board, our Merchant Guild employees, The Benbow Inn and RV park, Cal Fire’s Isaac Lake, all the local fire departments and public agencies and countless volunteers! Pat Neighbors of the Community Credit Union, you are a rock star! The extra funds that she raised during a recent Rotary meeting brought us to a fundraising goal that was attainable.  To all of the community members who generously gave while shopping at our local merchants or our mail campaign, thank you.  Thank you to the local merchants for accepting the donations.  The prizes for the annual raffle to raise funds for the event were generously donated by: Boot Leg, True Value & Parkinson’s Lumber, Wyckoff’s Plumbing, The Riverwood Inn & Dining, The Chimney Tree, Toni Genaro Insurance Services, Redway Feed & Garden Supply, Sylvandale Nursery, Dazey’s Building Center, The Security Store, Blue Room Bar, The Stonery, Humboldt Hydro, Benbow Inn, Korbly Wood Products and Whitethorn Construction. I apologize if I’ve forgotten anyone.

The feeling I get from putting on the event, besides exhaustion, is a blessing from this community. Many of us repurposed our holiday to put on the event that only lasts a short time, but stays in our minds forever.  We are remembering the freedom of our country together for one evening, and it is well worth the ”Thank you” and “Good job” comments that we receive for weeks following.  I would also like to express thanks to the residents of Benbow who have for 15 years, had to deal with the traffic in their quiet community for the evening.

We are looking forward to another awesome event next year!
