Clean Communities Campaign

Welcome to the GRACC,’s Clean Communities Campaign!
This is an effort to once again make our local communities safe, healthy, and harmonious for everyone.  As our population increases each year, it seems that our towns in particular are busting at the seams.  In “town”, whichever that may be, we all live our lives, conduct business, and raise our families.  At the GRACC we hear a lot of concerns from our business owners and their employees, parents, and tourists about the condition of town.  Tourists are afraid, disgusted, and not interested in coming back.  Locals feel the same way and fear for the safety of their children as they go to and from school.
While we love the hustle and bustle of town, at times it is too much!  Walking through people practically camping on the sidewalks, smoking everything in plain sight and blowing smoke in the faces of those passing by, leaving litter and cigarette butts everywhere!  It is just not acceptable for our local beliefs and goals.  It is not how we as a community want to be seen or remembered.
We are not trying to be the solution to all the  world’s problems, we can do our part to take care of our own neighborhoods.  Therefore, we hope that you join us and support us in our efforts to clean things up.  We have started a few projects and ask that you participate in some way.  We have posters and notices for your business windows.  We have a loose schedule of daily habits that we hope you will participate in at least one of.  We have suggestions about how to deal with panhandling and loitering.  If we are all doing and saying the same things, we believe we will make positive change.
Our Merchant Guild is going strong.  We are pressure washing sidewalks and, although it is a slow process, we believe it will be worth the effort.  Our recycling bins are being emptied more regularly and being cleaned as well.  We are asking other organizations to join us in our efforts and will continue to promote the overall wellbeing of our So Hum community.
We are open to ideas and suggestions.  You can email us at chamber@garberville.org.  Call the Chamber office at (707)923-2613.  Or come by the office and speak to a representative of the Chamber.  Let us know if you would signs like the one pictured above for your business window (I can change the town to another So Hum town for you), one of our "No Smoking with in 30 feet" signs, or a "No Loitering" sign.  We will gladly print it up and get it to you!

Bricelnad Vineyards Fall Wine Tasting

Briceland Vineyards Fall Wine Tasting
11/29/2013
Fall wine tasting at the winery Fri & Sat 1 - 5pm
In the past few years, Briceland has been looking at winemakeing techniques aimed at improving both red and white wine quality. Specifically, by producing white wines by carefully protecting the juice and wine from oxidation throughout the process, from harvest through bottling. The result is wines that exhibit cleaner, fruitier aromas. The Pinot Noir production has likewise undergone some changes, including the use of oak barrels made in the Napa Valley versus French-made barrels, which have a Sasquatch-sized carbon footprint! Two years of barrel aging rather than one year is producing Pinot Noirs of superior smoothness and complexity. Come and try the wines and taste them for yourself. In case you cant make this event, or if youd like to share these wines with your friends, tasting and sales of Briceland wines are available at Persimmons Garden Gallery Tasting Room in Redway, open Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. com. BRICELAND VINEYARDS is located west of Redway on the road to Shelter Cove. Established in 1985 by winemaker Joe Collins and Maggie Carey, they specialize in the production of wines from grapes grown in Humboldt County without the use of pesticides, herbicides or synthetic fertilizers. The cool, southern Humboldt County climate is especially well-suited for growing Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, and Briceland also produces two Italian varietals, Arneis and Nebbiolo. Directions: Follow Briceland Road out of Redway for 6 miles. Look for winery sign on right hand side of the road.
