Merchant's Guild Update

Our Merchant's Guild that helps keep town clean is in full swing!  I have figured out the billing for contributors and I am realizing that I do not have just one list for members, so if you would like to be a part of the Merchant's Guild and have not been receiving statements, please let me know so that I can fix it!  We are also going to be getting some help from Rotary and the Soroptomists in February with some big projects that will really clean up Garberville.  Thank you to both of them for all their work and contributions in the community!

Welcome 2014

Happy New Year!  Although 2014 has gotten off to a rocky start for our community, we do hope that things turn around.  We have lots of exciting new ideas and work for this new year.  We hope that all of our members will participate and help make this year a success for our community!

A special thank to the 7th grade Mirand Mustangs Basketball for helping with set up and take down of this year's holiday lights.  And thank you to Just Rent It for dontaing the lift we needed! We hope to have it even more festive for next year!

Thank you also to everyone who came to, or bought tickets for, the Dave Mason show.  It was a success and everyone really enjoyed the evening!  The acoustics in the Garberville Theatre were fabulous!   And thank you to Brian Sykes and Roxianne Bullock for opening for us.  Brian is a graduate od SFHS and Roxianne currently attends 8th grade there.  It truly was a great reminder of why we need to keep music and arts in the schools!  The Chamber is donating over $700 to the Southern Humboldt Schools Foundation with proceeds from the evening!

Our new GRACOC Board Members for 2014 have officially been voted in.  Thank to everyone who returned their ballots!  Board members are:
Linda Brodersen- President
Blake Lehman- Vice President
Corinne Stromstad- Treasurer
Toni Genero
Clover Willison
Greg Pfau
Karen Miclette
Gary Futrell
Chrystine Lachnict

Member Benefits

Membership in the GRACOC has many benefits!

First off, we refer a lot of visitors and locals to our members each day.  "Where should I eat?  What is there to do?  What should I see?  How do I get to...?  Do you know where I can buy...?'  The questions are endless.  It is really nice to be able to hand them a business card, brochure, or menu.  So if you have some for us to put on one of our racks in the office we would love to have it!  Over the course of the next few months, I will be working on some brochures promoting our members, mimicing some of our website pages.  If you have specifics to add or change in either place, email it to me chamber@garberville.org.

Second, we are promoting our members everyday through social media and on our website.  Regularly scheduled posts are getting a lot of great feedback and such an easy way to advertise both locally and worldwide.  If you do not have a website, your membership comes with the opportunity to have one set up for you through Chamber Nation!  It is easy to do.  Simply go to garberville.org and click on login at the top right.  If you do not know your login information, send me an email and I will get it to you.  If you would like to use one of our local web designers, let me know and I will refer you to one of our members, or you can look them up in the Member Directory, also at garberville.org.  If you need help setting up a social media site like Facebook, I can help, or we have members who specialize in that as well.

Wow!  We are a diverse group!  And we always like adding new members.  So if you know a local business that is not a member and think they would be a great addition, please talk to them.  Mention some of the postive things we are doing in the community and encourage them to join!  They can join online at garberville.org or in person at the Chamber office.

And thank you to all of our members for being a part of the GRACOC and your continued support of our community!  We wouldn't be here without you!

Wedding Planning

I have heard a lot of talk from photographers and venues booking up for the summer Wedding season.  So, I thought I would put together some promotions of our own for all of our members who are associated with weddings.  Whether you organize, photgraph, have a venue, do spa parties, gift registry, play music, officiate, cater, or have something else to add to with weddings, I would love to hear back about it!  I am builidng a page and working on some social media promos for the month of February so email me specifics and I will add it in!  Just another great benfit of membership to the GRACOC!

We will also be honoring a few community members in the following categories (this in place of our previous Citizen Of The Year awards)-
Decades of Dedication

Volunteer of the Year
Hero of the Year
Business of the Year

Again, we will have a raffle, if you would like to donate a prize, you can bring it by the Chamber office or let me know and I can come pick it up.  Pre-sale raffle tickets will be available.  If you would like to sell tickets, let me know.  All proceeds will be used for the 4th of July fireworks.

I will get a more detailed information out as soon as possible!

Valentine's Day Promotions

Valentine's Day is next month!  If you would like me to add special events, offerings, etc about your business for Valentine's Day promotions, send me an email and I will add them!

Community Calendar

On our website garberville.org  content is always changing and being updated.  Especially our community calendar!  I try to add member events as they came my way, but I don't always get the information in time.  The community is welcome to add their own events.  It is easy.  Just go to the Event Calendar in the Events drop down menu and click on Submit Your Event when you get there!  The event does not go live until I have reviewed it for appropriate content, grammar, etc.  I have been diligent about checking for new events and getting the reviewed as quickly as possible.  Events can be special sales, menus, promotions, fundraisers, etc. The possibilities are endless.  I hope that everyone uses the calendar not just for planning their week, but planning their event as well.
I have listed all the major upcoming events, if I missed something, please let me know!
