BIZ 2 BIZ TRADE SHOW - AUGUST 26th

Wigwam to Host West Valley Chamber Biz to Biz Trade Show August 26

The West Valley Chamber Alliance and the Glendale Chamber will again sponsor the 9th Annual West Valley Biz to Biz Trade Show on August 26. Over 100 business vendors from throughout the West Valley will have exhibits and more than 500 attendees are expected from the Glendale, Buckeye, Peoria, Southwest Valley, Peoria, Surprise and Wickenburg Chambers of Commerce. The event will be held from 4-7pm at the Wigwam Resort.

Exhibit space is only $175 after August 1, and there is a $25 additional charge for electricity. Exhibit space includes a six foot draped tabletop and two chairs. The Southwest Valley Chamber is coordinating the registrations for exhibitors. For more information or to register, call 623-932-2260.

NEW SUPERINTENDENT NAMED

GLENDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD PICKS NEW SUPERINTENDENT

The Glendale Elementary School District Governing Board selected Joseph Quintana to be the District’s new Superintendent. He has been the assistant superintendent for human resources in the Cartwright school district. Quintana began his career as an educator 25 years ago as a teacher at Harold W. Smith Elementary School. H earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in education administration from Western New Mexico University.

SCHOLARSHIP GOLF TOURNAMENT SCHEDULED

11TH ANNUAL GLENDALE CHALLENGE SCHOLARSHIP GOLF TOURNAMENT, SEPT. 24TH
Enjoy a great morning of golf while helping students extend their education at the 11th Annual Glendale Challenge Scholarship Golf Tournament on Friday, September 24th. The event will begin at 6:30am with golfer check in followed by a 7:30am shotgun start at the Legend at Arrowhead Golf Course in Glendale.

 The cost is still $100 per person, which includes golf, cart, goodie bag four closest to the pin prizes and lunch. There will be a hole in one for $5000 and three other hole in one prizes. Once again we will have a putting contest in which one person will be guaranteed to win half of the money collected for the contest. Raffle, mulligans and great prizes are available with your donations. Hole sponsorships are available at $125each. If you have a foursome and a hole sponsorship the cost is only $495.

SAVE THE DATE - ANNUAL AUCTION GALA SET FOR OCTOBER 1st

Save the Date! 17th Annual Chamber Auction Gala Set for October 1

The Chamber’ 17th Annual “Keys to Success” Auction Gala will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel (I-17 and Peoria Ave) on Friday, October 1 from 6-9pm. This year’s event will honor small businesses in Glendale and feature a different silent and live auction format than in the past. The event will begin at 6pm with cocktail hour , a large silent auction, and entertainment, followed by an hors d’ouerves buffet, short awards program and live auction beginning at 7pm. The live auction this year will feature, for the first time, a very limited number of high –end items and memorabilia and will be conducted during dinner. Auction check-out will be between 8-9pm. A list of items will be available online beginning in September and in the September edition of the Pulse in the Glendale Star.

Individual tickets for the event are $40 and tables of 8 are available for $300. Advance reservations may be made by calling the chamber at 623-937-4754.

2nd ANNUAL SERVICE CLUBS' BENEFIT FUNDRAISER

2nd GLENDALE COUNCIL OF SERVICE CLUBS BENEFIT FUNDRAISER ON 9/11
Many of Glendale’s service clubs are working together to assist two local organizations with a fundraising day of events on Saturday, September 11th. The beneficiaries are “Hands of Hope” to help heal all those struggling with and affected by domestic abuse and “Heart for the City” reaching out to at risk youngsters and their families physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
The day will begin at 9am with a blood drive, blood pressure checks, fire and water safety and much more including a hot dog or hamburger lunch for only a $5 donation. A dinner dance will begin at 6pm with food, entertainment, drawings featuring an honored guest, one of the 9/11 survivors, Roberta Starkey Cozine. The dinner dance is $20 per person.
The events will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 8066 N. 49th Ave. just north of W. Northern in Glendale. For tickets and information, call Harry Shapiro at the Glendale Chamber, 623-937-4754.

Transportation-related accidents account for the greatest number of workplace fatalities every year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Whether you drive a company car on a work-related trip or in your own vehicle on personal time, defensive driving tactics could be a lifesaver for you, your passengers and other drivers.

“A majority of businesses I work with omit including defensive driving training in their safety policy,” said SCF Loss Control Consultant Armando Sapien. “They make the assumption that their drivers already know driving laws. But this type of training could help them reduce accidents and help protect them from liability in certain instances.”

During the busy summer driving season, SCF recommends that all motorists, especially those who drive as part of their job, follow sensible safety suggestions to reduce the chances of being involved in a wreck. Some of these include:
