BANNER MEDICAL CENTERS SEE AN INCREASE IN HEADACHE AND SEIZURE DISORDERS DURING

An Arizona monsoon storm can be a headache for a driver drying to navigate the road as well as a homeowner trying to keep the yard clear of debris. But the summer storms can also be a cause of real headaches for migraine sufferers too.

Monsoon storms bring a change in the barometric pressure, which may cause imbalances in serotonin and other brain chemicals. These imbalances can trigger migraines or worsen headaches that may have started from other sources, including bright sunlight, heat, wind, allergens and humidity.
It’s a double edged sword. Dehydration can trigger migraines through the loss of water and sodium. The other end of the sword is too much water, which can cause headaches when electrolytes are thrown off balance with over hydration.
