GLENDALE GLITTER AND GLOW BLOCK PARTY, JAN. 14TH
The holiday celebration comes to an end at the Glendale Glitter and Glow Block Party on Saturday, January 14th from 4pm to 11pm in downtown Glendale. The annual display of 1.5 million lights, more than 20 hot air balloons and festivities covering 16 blocks of the downtown area are featured. Enjoy more than a dozen bands, street performers, arts and crafts, food vendors highlight the evening. Parking is available for $10 in the downtown parking garages or you can park at Glendale Community College and take the free shuttle to the event.
31st ANNUAL LUKE SHOOT OUT GOLF TOURNAMENT SET FOR MARCH 2ND
Mark your calendar for the 31st Annual Luke Shoot Out Golf Tournament on Friday, March 2nd, 7:30am shotgun start at Falcon Dunes Golf Course, 15100 W. Northern. As always, the tournament will benefit Operation Warm Heart, assisting E-1 to E-4 personnel whose spouses are overseas.
Get your name out in front of military personnel, retired military and chamber members by being a sponsor. Your business can sponsor the putting contest, hole in ones, hospitality or any other event at the tournament for only $1000, which also includes signage and a foursome. Tee sponsorships are $125. It’s $100 per golfer to play but if you have a foursome and a tee sponsorship, the cost is only $495, which is a $30 savings. The Banner Health Network (BHN) announced that it has been selected to participate in the Pioneer Accountable Care Organization (ACO) model, a transformative new initiative sponsored by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center. Through the Pioneer ACO model, BHN will work with CMS to provide Medicare beneficiaries with higher quality care, while reducing growth in Medicare expenditures through enhanced care coordination. Banner Thunderbird Medical Center will host its monthly free Heart Health Community Lecture Series on Wednesday, January 18th from 5:30 to 7pm. The subject will be “Sleep Apnea and Cardiac Arrest” to be presented by Dr. Stephen Anthony, MD. If you have had heart failure, sleep apnea can be more than a frustrating problem. It can be dangerous. Sleep apnea causes you to have one or more pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while sleeping. Dr. Anthony is a pulmonologist. Enjoy a wonderful day of spring training from a suite while watching the Los Angeles Dodgers play against the Kansas City Royals on Thursday, March 15th. First pitch is 1:05pm. Included will be snacks and iced tea. Everyone will also receive a drink ticket for refreshments from the bar. We will also stay after the game for a blender reception in the suite and suite lobby. The cost for the suite is normally $50 per person but chamber members and their friends are invited for only $20 per person. Payment for the reservation must be made by March 1st to guarantee space. This is a great opportunity for chamber members to show appreciation to their employees by taking them out to the old ball game. And a chamber member will throw out the first pitch with me. The Glendale Chamber of Commerce has not had an active Military Affairs Committee for the past few years. Due to the request of interested members, the committee will be formed again. The committee will be involved in the Annual Luke Shoot Out Golf Tournament, an event to honor Luke military personnel who volunteer in the community and another event to be added to the schedule soon. The National Cancer Institute estimates that nearly one third of all cancer deaths may be diet related. Some foods kill cancer cells while others promote cancer cell growth. Learning what to eat and what not to eat is essential. Chef Madelyn Pryor will cover cancer related nutrition topics during a special program sponsored by Banner Good Samaritan and the Wellness Community. The cooking demonstration and tasting features vegan menus loaded with antioxidants, phytochemicals, high fiber, low fat and healthy dairy alternatives.
