Vogt Becomes Board Chairman
James Vogt, Manager of M & I Bank at 55th and Bell Road, took over as Chairman of the Board at the Chamber’s 59th Business Appreciation Luncheon and Mayor’s State of the City Address on February 23.
Outgoing Chairman of the Board, Dr. Arthur Dobbelaere of Midwestern University, lauded the Chamber’s 2009 accomplishments as remarkable, given the severity of the economic downturn. The Chamber partnered with the City in implementing a Business Retention program and made site visits to over 50 area major employers to assess growth and job creation needs; strengthened our communication networks by creating an online newsletter and connected the Chamber with Twitter and Facebook social media outlets; grew the Chamber’s website to an average of 600,000 hits and nearly 20,000 business referrals per month; developed international trade opportunities with China by taking 120 people t Shanghai and Beijing in October of 2009; continued to strengthen our public policy efforts by helping to create the first –ever statewide business legislative agenda with over 30 other local Chambers in Arizona; partnered with the City of Glendale to promote the Luke Forward effort to secure the F35 training facility at Luke Air Force Base; and began a “Young Professionals” network to connect business people ages 21-40 with Chamber and community programs.

The Glendale Chamber Foundation and the City of Glendale Hispanic Network will host the seventh annual César Chávez Breakfast celebrating diversity in the West Valley on Wednesday, March 31, at 7:30 am at the Glendale Civic Center.
The event commemorates the life and legacy of César Chávez and recognizes outstanding community leadership for the promotion of diversity in the West Valley. Sponsors include: Arizona Public Service, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Chicanos Por La Causa, City of Glendale, Glendale Community College, Qwest Communication, and Southwest Ambulance.
read more... Annual Chamber Golf League Begins March 29th
Monday, March 29th is the first round of golf in the 9 hole Glendale Chamber spring golf league. It runs for 12 weeks, ending on June 14th. Tee time for the shotgun start for the first week is 4:30pm. As the days get longer, the start time will be later. The cost is $225 per person for 12 weeks, which includes golf, cart, three closest to the pin contests each week and a season ending barbeque and awards night. You don’t have to be a good golfer to play in this league. There are two person teams using basic handicaps who will play against other teams each week. Its fun, its inexpensive and its networking. The league will play at Glen Lakes Golf Course at N 55th Ave. and W. Northern. To sign up as an individual or a two person team or for more information, call Harry at 623-937-4754.

The Glendale Chamber of Commerce, City of Glendale, and Luke Air Force Base will host the 7th “Mastering the Purchasing Maze” Procurement Fair and Small Business Trade Show on April 27 at the Glendale Civic Center from 8-11:30am.
This is the largest Procurement Fair in the state of Arizona with an average attendance of over 1000 small businesses and government agencies. This is a great opportunity to meet buyers representing : federal and state government agencies, military bases, colleges and universities, school districts, cities and counties. This year, there will also be a small business element where small businesses can exhibit and/or meet with one another to exchange products and services….all under one roof! Here’s your chance to exhibit at a trade show where there is a ready-made business crowd, and buyers wanting to hear about your products and services! Exhibit tables are : $50 for government or non profit agencies, $100 for Glendale Chamber member businesses, and $200 for non members. Admission to the event is free. Chamber Welcomes New Board Members
At the recent 59th Annual Business Appreciation Luncheon, the Chamber officially inducted three new board members :
Steve Adams – Alphagraphics Steve owns three Alphagraphics in the Valley and is has the 10th largest overall Alphagraphics operation in the world. His newest location is at 8041 N. Black Canyon Highway. He is a former Chairman of the Board of the Mesa Chamber , and has been president of the Mesa Rotary, Mesa Town Center Board, Phoenix National Association of Accountants, and the ASU Accountancy Circle. He also serves on the Mesa United Way board of directors. Stephen Harnden – Harnden & Associates Steve is a Senior Financial Advisor with Ameriprise Financial Services located at 10240 West Bell Rd, Suite. His practice focuses on personal financial planning for retirement, investments, estate planning, tax management, wealth preservation and protection planning for family security and small businesses. He is a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants and also is an instructor for the Cities of Glendale, Peoria and Scottsdale, and the Westford School of Real Estate. Steve is also a board member of the Glendale IDA , Surprise Habitat for Humanity Family Selection Committee, and Clinica Esperanza in Honduras. Mary Pritchard – The Pritchard Group Mary is owner of the Pritchard Group, located at 8751 N. 51st Ave, Suite 107, a full service insurance agency offering health and life, auto and home, and business insurance. She has owned the agency for over 20 years. A strong supporter of civic and community groups, Mary is an active member in numerous West Valley Chambers of Commerce. She is a past Chairman of the Glendale Chamber (1995) and a past chairman of the Glendale Planning and Zoning Commission. She is also a member of a number of local and national life and health underwriter organizations.
