TANGER OUTLETS AND COYOTES DEALS TO BOOST GLENDALE BUSINESS

The recent opening of Tanger Outlets, combined with the City of Glendale’s November 27 approval of the Phoenix Coyotes arena lease and management agreement with Arizona Hockey Arena Partners, LLC and Arizona Hockey Partners, LLC is expected to bring a huge business boost for Glendale’s Entertainment District and Westgate City Center.  Additionally, a number of prospective tenants for Westgate have been waiting in the wings for the agreements to be finalized before they were to move with their lease agreements.  Many are expected to be announced after the first of the year.

However, the NHL strike has complicated matters, with games cancelled through December.  A number of existing Westgate business report the lockout is costing them as much at $18-25,000 in lost business per game.  The large crowds of shoppers at adjacent Tanger Outlets is helping to ease that somewhat, but business owners and managers are hoping that the lockout is soon settled.  The City of Glendale also sees an estimated loss of $60,000 per game in tax revenue and is anxious to see things resolved as well.

THE REAL VALUE OF A CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

A national study by The Schapiro Group, an Atlanta-based market research firm, reveals a number of important findings about how consumers and business owners perceive the local chamber of commerce and the businesses that are their members.  For example:
Ø When consumers know that a business is a member of the local chamber, they are 44% more likely to think favorably about it.
Ø Consumers who are told that a business is a chamber member are 51% more likely to be highly aware of it and 57% more likely to think positively of its local reputation.
Ø Consumers are 63% more likely to buy goods and services in the future from a company that they believe is a member of the local chamber of commerce.

The study also has good news for businesses that sell to other businesses.
Ø When business decision-makers believe that a business is a chamber member, they are 37% more likely to think favorably of the business, 51% more likely to be highly aware of it, 58% more likely to think positively of its local reputation, and 59% more likely to buy goods and services from it.

Supporting the previous findings, the study also reveals a positive perception for the local chamber itself:
Ø Regarding the chamber’s impact on the local economy, 82% of respondents believe that the local chamber of commerce helps create jobs and promotes local economic development.

The results of the Schapiro study are clear:  Positive perception increases among consumers and business owners when a business is identified as a member of the local chamber of commerce.

CHAMBER NETWORKING CAN BE SUCCESSFUL WHEN YOU USE IT!!!

By attending Glendale Chamber events, you are networking with other businesses and potential leads for yourself.  There are many events throughout the year to meet potential clients and make new friends.  Monthly Business Blenders, weekly networking groups, golf tournaments, luncheons, trade shows and ribbon cuttings are great opportunities for you to grow your businesses.  The person you meet may not be your future customer but they may know someone who could use you service or product.  If you cannot attend an event, send one of your employees to represent your company.  Your odds will increase by meeting with people at chamber events.  Plan on it.  The schedule is always in our monthly newsletter and on our website.
