PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING AND CITIZEN INPUT MEETING TONIGHT

                                                    
  
A Public Information Meeting and Citizen Input Meeting will be held tonight(Tuesday), September 27, 2016 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Glenwood Lakes Area Chamber & Welcome Center conference room, located at 7 First Street NW (behind Subway Restaurant).

All persons wishing to express their views with regard to elements which could be considered as part of the Glenwood's Park System Master Planning process are invited to attend.  If you have any questions contact Dave Iverson, City Administrator at 634-5433.

City of Glenwood Flushing Hydrants

The City of Glenwood will be flushing hydrants between Monday, September 19th and Friday, September 30th. City residents may notice a temporary water discoloration during this process.  If this occurs, simply run the water until it clears.

As part of the MN Bankers' Association Community Impact Week, Eagle Bank is inviting all individuals to its community shred day.  There will be a paper shredding truck in their parking lot.

Limit 100 pounds per person.

Grandparents Are Special Class on October 3

Grandparents are Special Class will be held on Monday, October 3, from 6-7 p.m. at the ECFE now in the Minnewaska Elementary School, southwest entrance. This class is for grandparents and their 2-5 year olds to come and enjoy activities and music.  Cost is $5 per family.  Call to register at 320-239-1408 for more information.

CHAMBER MEMBERS - WELCOME PROGRAM ITEMS NEEDED!

Glenwood Lakes Area Chamber Members, Agencies, Organizations - we are in need of items for our Welcome Program gift bags and folders.

We have been busy visiting with new members in the community, and are running low on gifts and informational brochures. 

We will be putting together another 25 gift bags and folder around the end of this month.  We anticipate several visits in September and October. 

We have also been seeing more people stopping for information.  As a chamber member, we can display your business cards and brochures.  We need 25 item and/or 25 brochures for our welcome program and we could use 15-20 brochures to display. 

If you've not seen our remodeled lobby, stop by and check it out. 

Thank you to all who have been participating in this program.  It has been very successful, because of your continued support.  At this time, we have visited with 84 individuals or families.

Each year, the Glenwood Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the following co-sponsors, Starbuck Chamber of Commerce, The Klick Foundation, Glenwood Development Corporation, cities of Glenwood and Starbuck, Pope County Commission, Pope County HRA/EDA and the State of Minnesota, set aside a day during October (National Manufacturing Month) to recognize a local area business or industry that has made a substantial impact on the community.

This year, we are please to announce that Glacial Ridge Health System will join 22 past recipients in receiving this recognition  We invite you to join us as we recognize Glacial Ridge Health System along with the past recipients on Thursday, October 20 at Lakeside.

United Nations Ambassador's Reception (ADVANCED RSVP REQUIRED)

The United Nations Ambassador's Reception is scheduled for Friday, September 30, 2016 from 4:30 - 8:00 p.m. at Lakeside Ballroom. Social Hour & Hor D'oeuvres at 4:30 p.m, program & Dinner Served at 5:30 p.m.  All guests must be registered and paid for in advance, plus show a photo ID at the door to gain admission. No tickets will be sold at the event!

RSVP's are required by 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, with payments received prior to the event. If you wish to attend, but have missed the RSVP deadline, please contact the Glenwood Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce to see if reservations can still be made. 

Tickets include a plated dinner and program featuring the local efforts to combat Internet Crimes Against Children, the Dignity Restored Initiative, an International Rotary project in Uganda that the Glenwood Rotary Club along with others are sponsoring, and Ambassador Kintu Nyago as the keynote speaker. 50% of the proceeds will go towards the Uganda Dignity Restored Initiative and Glenwood Rotary Club local, regional, and international projects and initiatives.

This is a private, semi-formal event. Business professional attire is required. All Chamber members, Rotarians, elected officials, and Chamber member employees and/or guests are eligible to register and RSVP for the event!

Glenwood Commercial Grant Opportunities

The City of Glenwood is seeking grant funds from the Minnesota Department of Employment & Economic Development's (DEED's) Small Cities Development Program (SCDP) for downtown property owners in the target area featured below who are interested in improving their commercial buildings.

As part of the application process for these funds, the City must provide a list of interested property owners and examples of projects in Glenwood which need funding.

It is important that you complete the attached Letter of Interest Form if you would like funding from this grant to fix up your property! If you own multiple buildings downtown, please complete and submit separate forms for each building!

Thank you to Canary Beach Resort for hosting this last Rise & Shine event. Kevin & Shannon Bodeker's name  was drawn in the Member Jackpot Drawing, but since no one was present at Rise & Shine to claim the jackpot drawing, the jackpot continues to grow! 

Canary Beach gave out four door prizes for the business card drawing and all four claimed the Canary Beach door prizes at Rise & Shine!

4:30-6:30 p.m.

The Glenwood and Beyond haunted house will not be open for the public Halloween evening, but they will be open for the Community Trick or Treat.

This is a lights on, no actors, child friendly time, Walk through the haunted house (guided if you wish).  
Throughout the house, different business, agencies, organizations, clubs  will be handing out treats.

The event will take place on Halloween Night, October 31, 2016 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Those businesses, organizations, clubs or just friends for the event that wish to participate, should let Kay know you will be participating for publicity notices and thank yous.  

Those handing out treats should be at the Pope County Fright Nights Haunted House to find their spot and get ready to hand out treats around 4:00-4:15 p.m..  We generally plan for 200-250 children to stop by to  trick or treat.

The garage was cleaned out and moved.  We still have seven chairs that were in that garage to give away. 

These were donated to the chamber several years ago and we no longer have space for them.
