Rachel's Challenge
Dear Community Members,
While her life was tragically cut short during the Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999, Rachel Joy Scott’s shining example of kindness and compassion was not defeated that day. As Minnewaska Area School students in grades 4-6 and 7-12 learn her inspiring true story during the day, adults are welcome to attend the evening community event. Rachel’s story provides a simple, yet powerful example of how small acts of respect and acceptance can start a chain reaction of kindness and compassion. Using resources from Rachel’s Challenge, PreK-3rd will also learn of her vision. This full day of inspiration is a kickoff as MAS and our community implement the practices of Rachel’s Challenge to positively affect the climate in our schools and communities.

Todd Erickson;Greg Erickson; Brian Walli; NathaneSchoenheer;Luke Gartner
Doubles Divisional Winners:
Evan Collander, Jeremiah Colllies; Nathan Pukal & Brian Walli; Wayne Zimmerman & Marv Hoffman
The weather was perfect this weekend to spend at Barsness Park in Glenwood and enjoy participating in the first Annual Glenwood Lakes Area Amateur Disk Golf Fundraiser Tournament, sponsored by The Glenwood Lakes Area Welcome Center and Explore Minnesota Tourism. In addition, there were 12 local area businesses who helped to co-sponsor the tournament.
The local league put in many hours to have the course ready for the event. New PDGA certified targets were installed in the park this summer, with the help of many local sponsorships.
Twenty-nine players participated in the Single Tournament on Saturday and 30 participated in the Doubles Tournament on Sunday. Participants came from the local area, as well as Texas, California, Wisconsin, Illinois, North and South Dakota.
A portion of the funds raised this past weekend will go back to the City of Glenwood to help with upkeep and maintenance of the course. Any other funds will go back to tournament funding for next year.
Thank you to the volunteers for the weekend event Jeannie & Randy Pederson, Char & Wayne Zimmerman, Ryan Gandrud, Scott Joos, Jim Beck, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tami Griffin, Mike Butler and Brian Walli,
Thank you to Mike Butler, Brian Walli, Wayne Zimmerman and other league and community volunteers for all their hard work on the course this summer and for raising funds for the targets and signs.
Since this was the first year of the event, there were several things that we learned, but also that this event and new 18-hole course is truly an attraction that both local residents, visitors and tourists are willing to travel great distances to play! We look forward to next year's event being bigger and better as we grow!
