Located in Central Florida, Haines City came into existence with the advent of the railroad in 1883. Historically, it was called Clay Cut and later named Haines City for Colonel Haines, an official of the South Florida Railroad. Haines City is the birthplace of two pioneering ventures. The first was in 1915 when Florida Fruit Products Company produced and premiered the first bottled grapefruit juice. In the late 1940s the citrus industry’s character changed again when Haines City businessmen began work on the development of frozen citrus concentrate. Haines City became the birthplace of frozen concentrate products. A Florida Boom Town, downtown Haines City is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
