Education Celebration Luncheon - Thursday, February 17th

Education Celebration Luncheon - Mark your calendars! Our annual Education Celebration Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, February 17th, at the Tom Fellows Community Center (207 North Blvd. West, Davenport, FL), at 11:30 a.m. Our local schools' selected nominees for Teacher of Year and School Related Employee of the Year will be recognized.

Open Enrollment - Polk County Public Schools' open enrollment is happening now. Submit an application by February 18th for priority consideration.

HEARTH Project Valentine's Cards Collection

HEARTH Project Valentine's Cards Collection - Heart of Florida Chiropractic (HOF)  is collecting boxed Valentine's Cards again at their office (350 S. 10th Street, Haines City, FL 33844) for the The Hearth Project to distribute to the homeless children in the Polk County Public Schools, so they can participate in their class Valentine's exchanges.

Please drop off boxed cards at HOF's office by Friday, February 4th.

Microshading 101 Course

Microshading 101 Course - Jj Glow Esthetics Spa will be offering a Microshading 101 course. Participants must be 18 or older. This course is perfect for current high school seniors or recent high school graduates interested in becoming a licensed permanent makeup artist. 

The course is Sunday, March 6th, from 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., at 15 N 6th St, Ste A, Haines City, FL 33844. 

The course includes a full kit, live demo, lunch, license assistance, certificate, & more. The course is $650, with a $150 non-refundable enrollment fee. You can sign up online at https://jjglowesthetics.com/training

Scholarship Opportunities

CHUF Edwin Steve Memorial Scholarship - The Compassionate Hearts United Foundation is offering the Edwin Steve Memorial Scholarship. 

The Edwin Steve Memorial Scholarship honors high school seniors who are planning on pursuing a college degree in the State of Florida or in the Island of Puerto Rico. The scholarship was established in memory of Edwin S. Camacho-Reyes, brother of our founder and president, Marielys Camacho-Reyes. The recipient of the Edwin Steve Scholarship will be awarded one thousand dollars ($1,000.00). 

Guidelines and Procedures:

An applicant must:

  1. Have been accepted to a university in the state of Florida or the Island of Puerto Rico.
  2. Applicant must be a high school senior with a 3.0 GPA (or higher)
  3. Submit the following documents by March 2nd, 2022:
    1. Completed application form.
    2. Unofficial transcript.
    3. A 500 words essay on why is important to have compassion not only for others but also for ourselves. Give an example of a time when you practiced compassion for others and for yourself, and what were the results.

     4. Send application and all required documents to us via email: marielyscr@chufinc.org

Selection Procedure:

Completed applications and all supporting materials must be submitted to us by March 2nd, 2022The chairperson will forward all application materials to the Awards and Scholarship Coordinator who will present the materials to the committee.

Our Administrative Committee will recommend to our Board of Directors the number of scholarships to be awarded based on the available funds and the number of QUALIFIED applicants. Selected students will be notified via email and mail on April 6th, 2022. A formal presentation of the scholarship(s) will be made at the end of April at a location to be determined.

Each applicant is encouraged to double-check all the details on his/her application to be certain that all criteria have been met.

2022 Scholarship Award Application

Supervisor of Elections Scholarship - Polk County Supervisor of Elections, Lori Edwards, announced that the Florida Supervisors of Elections (FSE) will award four $1,200 scholarships to Florida students in 2022.

Applicants must be:

- Registered to vote in the State of Florida
- Be a Citizen of the United States
- Enrolled as a full-time student in a senior college or university in Florida
- Majoring in Political Science/Public or Business Administration or Journalism/Mass Communications

Applicants must also possess at least a “C” average for the previous year, demonstrate financial need and be available for an interview in the county where they are registered to vote.

The deadline to return the scholarship application, which includes two letters of recommendation, is March 11, 2022.
Polk Education Foundation Scholarships - The Polk Education Foundation's scholarships window is open now through Thursday, February 14th.

Flashback Feel-Good News

Flashback Feel-Good NewsPosner Park Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram FIAT adopted a classroom at Loughman Oaks Elementary Owls. They donated all of the items on Mrs. Larroy's classroom wish list. ❤

The dealership also distributed goodie bags to the students and brought a Jeep Wrangler for the students to see.

Actively Collecting Donations

Parkview Housing Donations - Parkview Housing Inc. distributes food to local school children on Fridays, so they can have food during the weekends. They are currently in need of food and financial donations, so they can continue providing food for children.

The list of food items needed are canned spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli, mac and cheese bowls, fruit cups, and pop-tarts. Canned items with pop tops are preferred because it is easier for the children to open.

For any financial donations, there is a donate button on their website, https://www.parkviewhousininc.org/. Parkview also accepts Zelle donations, which can be sent to Debra Wright's number - 321-278-7815.

Hornet Closet Wish List - Help students in need by donating items to the Hornet Closet, where Haines City High School students can go for basic necessities.

ELC of Polk County CEO, Dr. Marc Hutek, in Need of Kidney to Live

ELC of Polk County CEO, Dr. Marc Hutek, in Need of Kidney to Live - In an effort to assist the Early Learning Coalition (ELC) of Polk County's CEO, Dr. Marc Hutek, in getting a kidney donor, ELC is asking that the following 3-minute video be shared in the immense hope that he will find one.

ELC has been greatly inspired by how, in spite of his circumstances, Dr. Hutek continues to come into work continuing to be the outstanding leader that he has always been for the Coalition and for the entire community.

ELC gives special thanks to Debbie Burdett, Director of Strategic Partnerships, for leading this campaign and doing such an awesome job of putting out such a heartfelt message to the community and to Daniel Carrion, Jr. Marketing Specialist, for using his amazing video talents in creating the video.
