February Student of the Month:
Litzy Vargas
Litzy Vargas is a 12th grade student at Hardee Senior High School with a weighted GPA of 3.23. She is on the college track and enrolled in Honors and Dual Enrollment classes so she can better prepare herself for the demands of college.
Litzy was nominated by Economics Teacher Brian Kennedy and School Counselor Kim Davis. They recognized that Litzy is a conscientious and caring student, always willing to help her fellow students in ways both personal and academic. Litzy has many interests ranging from the culinary arts to law enforcement. Her goal is to earn a Bachelor of Arts and serve her community in some capacity that will make a positive impact on others.
Beyond her academic focus, Litzy also manages to be involved in school clubs and sports including Key Club, Lionettes, Soccer and Track. Additionally, she has served as a trusted office worker and executive intern the first semester of her senior year.
Dusty Mendoza, Litzy’s former science teacher, stated that Litzy was an exceptional student in Chemistry who consistently exhibited self motivation and initiative. Her diligence shifted other student's engagement creating a more positive and productive learning environment.
Litzy’s current science teacher, Karen Gustinger, agrees wholeheartedly with Mr. Mendoza, adding that, “Litzy is an exemplary student who always has a smile and is willing to go out of her way to help others.”
Business Teacher Ashleigh Hayes had this to say about Litzy: Diligent worker, bright, team player… these are all terms that describe Litzy. However, when I think back on the two years that I was privileged to be her teacher, those aren't the first things that come to mind. The absolute first thing that comes to me is true kindness. Litzy is always willing to help anyone both inside and out of the classroom. She has a heart of gold and this joyful zest for everything she does that makes her stand out among her peers. To me, these are her most shining qualities.
