About Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway
Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway
Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway (LSHG) was established in 1992 and has since become a prominent conservation organization in Maryland. Our primary focus is on the Upper Bay region, where we collaborate with both public and private sectors to advocate for the protection and restoration of natural resources and cultural heritage. Additionally, we are dedicated to creating a land and water recreational trail system that connects waterfront communities in Harford and Cecil County.
The trails serve as a physical link between these communities, representing their historical connection and economic potential. By working together to establish a regional identity and tourist destination, we aim to support heritage tourism, conservation efforts, and recreational activities that contribute to the local economy, job creation, and community development. Through our work, we strive to educate individuals about the area's significant historical narratives while also providing a vision for its future.
At LSHG, we specialize in regional and national planning efforts by bringing stakeholders with common interests together at the table to facilitate collaborative solutions. Our funding primarily comes from grants and private donations, which enable us to carry out our mission effectively. Governed by a Board of Directors, our organization currently consists of two dedicated staff members who are committed to advancing our goals.
In summary, Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway is deeply invested in preserving the natural beauty and cultural significance of the Upper Bay region while also promoting sustainable tourism, economic growth, and community resilience. We are proud of our accomplishments thus far but remain steadfast in our commitment to furthering conservation efforts for generations to come.
