About Operation Stand Down Central Texas
Operation Stand Down Central Texas
Operation Stand Down Central Texas (OSDCT) was founded by individuals deeply committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of those who have selflessly served our nation. With a resounding belief that "One Homeless Veteran is One Too Many," OSDCT operates as an all-volunteer organization, ensuring that every dollar received remains within the local community. Our mission is rooted in the military concept of Stand Down, providing a sanctuary for exhausted combat soldiers to recuperate in a safe environment. Similarly, we strive to offer homeless and at-risk veterans a refuge from the harsh realities of street life, empowering them with the resources and support needed to regain stability and dignity.
Life for homeless veterans mirrors the battlefield, with daily struggles against adversity including unemployment, disabilities, legal issues, substance abuse, and despair. Recognizing this ongoing battle, OSDCT adopts the principles of the Stand Down initiative pioneered by the Vietnam Veterans of San Diego in 1988. Our approach involves hosting comprehensive, three-day events where veterans can access vital services while fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. By bridging the gap between service providers and recipients, we create an environment where veterans are treated with dignity and provided with the tools to reintegrate into society.
Since its inception, Stand Down events have transformed the lives of countless homeless veterans across the United States, and OSDCT proudly continues this legacy in Central Texas. Located at 201 Carpenter Street in Copperas Cove, our organization remains dedicated to offering a lifeline to those who have served.
