HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland Installs Auto Temp Kiosk

St. Joseph’s Hospital was eligible to receive CARES Act funds through its participation in the Small Rural Hospital Improvement Program (SHIP). SHIP is supported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). SHIP funds support rural hospitals with 49 or fewer beds, including Critical Access Hospitals, such as St. Joseph’s Highland. It ensures small hospitals have the tools needed to detect, prevent and treat COVID-19.
 
With the grant funds, St. Joseph’s Hospital purchased and installed an automated temperature screening kiosk by Infrared Cameras, Inc. (ICI) located in the Medical Office Building lobby. The temperature screening system is rapid and highly accurate and prints out a label when someone is cleared. A hospital volunteer or colleague is available to answer questions and provide assistance, and the hospital has protocols in place to handle any issues. It is a quick screening alternative for visitors or vendors.
 
HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital President and CEO John Ludwig said, “We were grateful to receive the grant funds which allowed us to put a temperature kiosk in the lobby to assist in our screening process. Temperature screenings are a front-line preventative measure, as elevated temperature is one of the first and easiest symptoms to identify the virus,” he said. “This technology provides an added layer of protection for our visitors, staff and patients beyond our existing standard safety measures, like mandatory face masks and social distancing."
