Empowerment At Home: The HBBC (07/26/11)
With all of the websites, books and expert advice, are you still having difficulty finding information specifically geared for businesses run from home? Support to start or run a home-based business may be found with the Home-based Business Chamber of Commerce Delmarva Chapter.
The Home-based Business Chamber of Commerce was established in 2007 by Beverly Anderson and is based in Tennessee. HBBCC Delmarva chapter president, Jamie Shanklin says the organization, “provides opportunity for us to build credibility and collaborate, and of course, share ideas and learn how to effectively market our businesses,” in the same marketplace as businesses with a storefront or large corporations.
The Delmarva chapter was formed in April 2011 after Shanklin, the operator of 10-year-old home-based business, reached out to Anderson in hopes of joining the Delaware chapter. She soon found there wasn’t one, but based on her experiences she knew there was a need. The number of home-based businesses is increasing as the effects of the recession drag on. With 10 members already, and a goal to reach 100 members by the end of the year, Shanklin holds 1-2 events a month. Members benefit not only from the organization’s convenient ‘one-stop’ website for information, but several other resources as well. One such resource is the opportunity to set up a webpage for your business.
