April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Protecting Children is Everyone's Business

Great childhoods, and healthy, productive futures, are undermined by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Research shows that children who experience abuse, neglect, and/or household dysfunction are at greater risk for poor health, learning and behavior outcomes. The greater number of adverse experiences a child is exposed to, the greater the risk of long-term negative consequences.

Indianola STEM Symposium and Appreciation Night

Celebrating Science, Technology, Engineering & Math

The Simpson College chapter of enactus is co-sponsoring the inaugural IMU Partners community program and would like to invite all Chamber members to this celebration.  Plan to hear from our brightest young minds, including the Indianola High School Tech Hub student teams and Simpson College EMERGE students, about their amazing projects.  Learn from STEM leaders about the evolving world of science, technology, engineering and math that create opportunities for our students.  Finally, find out what is happening in Indianola today and how to support these efforts.

The celebration will be held on April 23, 2015, at the Simpson College Kent Center, Hubbell Hall, from 5 p.m. - 7  p.m.  No RSVP is necessary.  Mark your calendars and plan to attend!

About IMU Partners: IMU and MCG provide world-class broadband services on the metro’s only community-owned fiber-to-the-premise network.  The Indianola Development Association joined IMU and MCG as IMU Partners in an initiative to connect Indianola to the value of the network and leverage its potential.

Collaboration Critical in Saving Year-Round Education

Congratulations!

Thanks to the hardwork of families, friends, staff, administrators, and students of Irving Elementary, the framework for a bill that saved year-round education was passed and will be signed by the Governor on April 10, 2015, at 1 p.m.

The legislators from Indianola collaboratively worked together to ensure that the bill was fair to all.  Congratulations to everyone for working together and accomplishing something great for our community!

Plan to join the Governor at the Capitol for the official signing of the bill into law.  Everyone is invited to attend.  Because the Governor is expecting many people to show up, the signing will take place on the west steps of the Capitol. In case of rain, it will take place in the Governor's formal office.

Special recognition should be given to Camie Haynes for coordinating the Indianola efforts and to Molly Rogalla for capturing the essence of why year-round school is important - the students. The grassroots campaign captured the attention of the Iowa general assembly and saved Indianola's year-round education program.  Congratulations!
