Home-Base Iowa (HBI) Initiative

Warren County Receives Home-Base Iowa Designation

Both the county and city of Indianola have approved first-time home-buyer benefits to veterans and individuals transitioning out of the military in an effort to attract these highly trained individuals to Indianola.  In addition, local businesses can add more benefits to the program to help sweeten the deal!

WE NEED YOU!
If your business would like to offer a special incentive, discount or service as part of the county-wide welcome package to enhance the benefits available to these individuals, please contact Rachel Gocken, Warren County Economic Development Corporation 515-961-1156 or rgocken@wcedc.com.

About Home-Base Iowa:
The Home Base Iowa (HBI) program is an initiative put forward by Governor Terry Branstad and Major General Tim Orr, the Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard. They recognized an opportunity to honor all veterans and help bridge Iowa’s current skills gap. Home Base Iowa was developed as a non-profit, private-public partnership to recruit veterans and transitioning service members and help them find private-sector careers in Iowa. Bob Meyers, CEO of Casey’s, and Congressmen Leonard Boswell are co-chairs of the initiative.

In addition to incentives offered by communities, the State of Iowa provides: income tax exemption on military pensions, $5000 military homeowner assistance, permissive veteran preference in employment, streamlined occupational licensure processes, and automatic in-state tuition for veterans, spouses and their dependents.

TEAM Training Program

Greater Des Moines Partnership

TEAM Training Program
As part of its continued effort to improve the health and well being of Iowans, the Healthiest State Initiative, with support from Greater Des Moines Partnership, launched TEAM (Teaching Employees Accountability Matters) training, a free program designed to help employers improve supervisor and employee relationships and increase engagement and retention.

According to the Gallup State of the American Workplace report, 70 percent of U.S. workers are not engaged in their jobs, resulting in lower productivity in the workplace, higher turnover and a greater risk of safety accidents. This costs companies between $450 and $550 billion each year.

The new TEAM training program is available to Partnership Regional Business Members of all sizes and includes two programs: TEAM workforce designed to be delivered to all employees, and TEAM supervisor designed to be delivered to first-time supervisors.

Each program features eight 30-minute modules and presentation and evaluation forms. The curriculum is self-guided and allows employers to insert company-specific policies and expectations. The training provides employees with foundational expectations of the work environment and targeted development for first-time supervisors in critical areas that will be impacted by their new role.

Greater Des Moines Partnership members can access and begin using the TEAM training program by visiting DesMoinesMetro.com/GetActive.
