Eileen Thompson Honored for 50 Years of Service with the Banking Industry



Eileen Thompson of TruBank, Indianola, Iowa
was recently honored by the Iowa Bankers Association(IBA) for more than 50 years of service at a bank. The award was presented to Eileen Thompson during the IBA Annual Convention on Sept. 19 in Des Moines.  Eileen Thompson was one of seven individuals recognized for reaching the 50-year service milestone.

Give Old Denim New Purpose

Theisen’s Home Farm Auto has partnered with Blue Jeans Go Green, a denim recycling program. Customers can recycle any type denim apparel no matter the condition, in return the customer gets a coupon to purchase new denim.

The collected denim is upcycled and turned into UltraTough™ Denim Insulation, providing a portion of the insulation to communities in need. Organizations who have used this insulation include Habitat for Humanity Homes. 2,700,999 square feet of denim insulation has been manufactured. Additionally, this program has kept 750 tons of denim out of landfills.
Theisen’s goal is to collect 3500 items.

There will be a change in the schedule for our October meeting this month for the Business Breakfast Club. 
We will be hosting a candidates forum for the Mayor and City Council race.  There are 9 total candidates running for election in Indianola.  Therefore to allow each candidate adequate time to present their platform and answer questions, we will be breaking the candidates into two groups.  The following will be the schedule for the breakfast meeting this month:

Join Indianola Parks and Recreation on The Square in Indianola for a morning of free, family-friendly fun! Enjoy games & fall activities on the lawn, taking photos with the Iowa League of Heroes and Little Princess Party princesses, and a hayrack ride around The Square. Come in costume and trick or treat at surrounding businesses, and sign up for the costume contest which starts at 11:15 am. Once the judges have finished their work, we'll parade around The Square and assemble for the awarding of trophies at 11:30 am.

UNICEF is an organization created by the United Nations to feed, clothe and provide healthcare to children in the neediest places in the world.

Since 1950, the Trick or Treat for UNICEF campaign has raised more than $175 million for this effort. This week, the IHS UNICEF Club will be inviting members of the community to join in this campaign by contributing to Trick or Treat for UNICEF. Middle school students are also invited to participate. Let's see how much we can raise for the needy children of the world as a community!

2017 Holiday Extravaganza Is Right Around the Corner

Two Ways to Get Involved



Be a part of the Holiday Extravaganza and show your support for this fun-filled family event!  There are two opportunities to get involved:


FESTIVAL OF TREES

The Festival of Trees is a new attraction this year, and we invite all businesses to participate! This is a great opportunity to promote your business during the holidays and add holiday cheer throughout the season. Participation is FREE.  You provide the tree and decorations.  Trees will be placed in businesses on the square prior to the Holiday Extravaganza and be available for the community to enjoy throughout the holidays. 
Trees will be judged and trophies awarded for: People's Choice ($50 Prize), Most Creative, and Best Theme.  All participants will be put into a drawing for a free 1/4 page ad in the Indianola Living Magazine.
Participation forns  are due by November 3, 2017.

LIGHTED PARADE

The Lighted Parade is a crowd favorite that allows you to showcase your business in a fun and creative way!  Participation is FREE! Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded for: Best Overall ($100 Grand Prize), Best Novelty, and Chamber's Choice.
